The Australian Modular shoegaze rockstars, Van She, have hit the blogs pretty hard in the past week, this time releasing “Strangers” to follow up the success of “Cat and the Eye”. For “Strangers” we have ourselves the original as well as their own edit, cementing their status as some of the most diverse and original artists out there worth paying attention to. I’ve been very focused on ‘em since their incredible remixes last year, including Feist, Dragonette & The Klaxons, among a few other mind bending works that still get massive play worldwide. Australians can look forward to a summer of tour dates across their continent, while I will do what I can to save up for a plane ticket… Enjoy these newer Van She releases.

Big thanks to Fuck You On Friday for the Pendulum remix. Probably one of the last projects that I would expect from the Van She Tech Team, I’m really digging it- especially coming in the wake of one of the more intense performances I’ve seen by the D&B legends. When I said that I felt like I need some sort of therapy from their set, I wasn’t kidding. This remix is of “Propane Nightmares” off of Pendulum’s latest album, In Silico. The I Am Finn remix is also something worth taking a listen to as well. I Am Finn is another electro pop-star from the UK that is making waves as of late. Head over to his myspace to check out some of his more recent releases.

Datarock is a show that I regret missing two weeks ago when I had the chance. But never fear! Datarock is playing all over the country until early July, Chicago in mid June at The Vic, even dipping up to Canada for a quick stay. Good stuff. As far as their work goes, “Computer Camp Love” is a more dated song of theirs, stemming back to 2006, but has all the raw and drab realism that you might find in a Teenagers track, parodying life as much as it does celebrate it with music. That is probably still my favorite of their releases to date, though it is so hard to overlook “Fa Fa Fa”- especially when you have Miami Horror throwing in the disco house, new wave element that just about everything is in dire need of these days.

D.I.M. is going to be in town on Thursday, May 8th, at Smartbar with Thomas Von Party & Matt Walsh. That’s day after tomorrow for all of you that are counting down the days with me. D.I.M. consistently pushes the envelope for making crowd killing electro tunes that are as cutting edge as they are completely and totally unforgiving. I’m expecting to be attacked from every auditory angle on this one, similar to his labelmate, Alex Ridha (aka Boys Noize of Boys Noize Records) several months back on the same stage. This guy’s not making too many detours along his way through this fine country before he heads back to Germany, so I’d suggest you spend your time wisely considering how many events there are that evening.

Junkie XL - More (D.I.M. Pop Em All Dub Rework)

Jape - Floating (D.I.M. Remix)

To only complicate things further, The Black Ghosts are scheduled to grace our fine city on Thursday, May 8th, as well- at the Hideout along with Thunderheist, Lazer Crystal, Willy Joy & Capcom. Shortly after releasing the I Want Nothing EP, I’m now officially anxious for the debut full length to drop. The single track of “I Want Nothing” falls in line with the rest of their anthemic, synth heavy, dream-bangers, and once again leaves me with the question: are there a better set of vocal cords on anybody creating music these days?? Big ups to Check the Availability for the Phones remix. The Whip’s version of “Any Way You Choose To Give It” is right off of my year-end best of list for ‘07, and god damn right it’s still one of the hardest hitting, most skull crushing electro definitions that I’ve come across since starting this little blog.

The Black Ghosts - I Want Nothing (Frankmusik Remix)

The Black Ghosts - I Want Nothing (Sinden Remix)

The Black Ghosts - Any Way You Choose To Give It (The Whip Remix)

Whilst on the subject of Phones, or Paul Epworth to be exact- the man who is still one of my favorite producers after that legendary Futureheads “Hounds of Love” teardown that was executed so well- why not post a few tracks that he has graced with remixes since we last did a little mention of him? This Jape track found it’s way to Discodust a few weeks ago, the rest of them have been haphazardly littered throughout the blogosphere for a little while now, only now to be concentrated on by yours truly. The Peter, Bjork & John track is pretty old, too. But what remains so remarkable about Phones is that his track selection may come in second only to his artistic vision for each one of the tracks that he actually selects. Truly a winning combination, and a sign of a great artist.. look to the New Order remix for a stunning example. Very powerful.

Turboweekend has been lighting up my ipod like a Christmas tree. A three piece group from Denmark, their debut album “Night Shifts” received many praises from the likes of blogs such as mine. Since then, they’ve found a few comfortable spots in the Palms Out Sunday Remix weekly, set up a shows with their buddy James Braun, and got booked for their local SPOT festival in Aarhus. With the glaring falsetto and killer synths present in tracks like “My Name is Legion” there’s a lot to fall in love with and plenty of reason to keep an eye on them.. I think we got around to posting a few of their tracks somewhere around October. Here are a few new and old songs to check out if you missed it. “You’re not a model but you know how to taaake a stand!“

Put your hands together for Snoop Doggy Dogg, the dog pound, and the fabulous dramatics!” Here’s a song that I heard the other day that I had to throw up here. One of my favorites from the doggfather’s debut. I remember hiding that album from my parents. Ha.

Starting off my first post, I would like to thank Nick for the opportunity to post on Redthreat. Ok lets kick things off shall we? Lately I’ve been really in to a band from Montréal call Dandi Wind. Originally, the first song that got my attention was “Balloon”. Dandilion Wind Opaine’s (Yes that’s her full name) voice is unlike any other female artist at the moment, and their live shows are considered to be an ‘in your face electronic mess’. Their stage attire is apparently as bizarre as the sounds that they produce. I advise checking them out when they come to town May 20th at Funky Buddha Lounge.

Dandi Wind -Searching Flesh (Jokers Of The Scene Remix)

This one’s for those of you who remember the 80’s Acid house era …ahhh memories, with artists like Lil Louis, 808 State, Fast Eddie and S’Express, started by Mark Moore. Well Mr. Moore has recently brought back S’Express from the past and has released a new song on the Kitsune record label called “Stupid Little Girls.” With mixes by JBAG and eon, you should be sure to pick up the album.

S’Express - Stupid Little Girls (JBAG Remix)

And I leave you with SebastiAn’s latest song released from the new Ed Rec Vol 3. This song has to be the high point of the album, and is a good sign of what’s to come from our friend, SebastiAn. You can bet your ass we’re excited. To top that off, a remix surfaced the other day of the single by none other than Choreo. If these don’t make you pound your fist in the air you must be dead…

A full week after the event, still depleted from my endless dancing bootcamp, I just now can pick up my laptop and reflect on all the sweat, all of the comings and going, friends, foes, moments of bliss and abomination, struggles, payoffs, ripoffs, freebies and all the beautiful music that all comes together to form Coachella with every spring that arrive. Amazing as to what can happen when you throw tens of thousands of kids together with little or no supervision, a habitat you can easily die in & some of the greatest bands and dj’s to walk the earth… People from LA may view it a little different than I do, being so close. But a midwestern city kid like me would liken the whole experience to space exploration before I’d call it anything normal- whatever that is.

The highlights for Friday are a little sparse. I wasn’t able to make it to a lot of the opening acts due to all sorts of reasons. I missed Sebastian, Busy P, Dan Deacon, Cut Copy & Vampire Weekend because of delays. Feel free to enlighten me on your experience if you were lucky to see any/all of them in my stead. The comment box is all yours! I did see Goldfrapp though, and they delivered well beyond the 2 minutes of patience that many fans had for their sound. I was excited to see that they were added to the lineup along with Aphex Twin, and man did “Strict Machine” come across well live. A wonderful closer. Here’s a Youtube video of the spectacle- be sure to click “watch in high quality” link right under the view counter. Sidenote: I’ll post more follow up videos once people have uploaded them. I’m sure that many have yet to be edited..
Goldfrapp (photo by Toni Francois)

From Goldfrapp I headed over to the Sahara tent until the festival was over. The dance tent looked great this year. Goldenvoice always manages to one-up themselves from the previous installment in terms of sound/visuals. I missed Datarock so that I could get a good spot for Pendulum during the Aphex Twin set that was right before it. Though I’d never seen Pendulum before, I knew that the potential highlight for the whole festival would be the Prodigy remix of theirs. I was very arguably correct. The crowd in the center of the floor got viscious- at one point, I would say there were about sixty people running around like crazed lunatics pushing and hollering, laughing, dancing, falling, screaming. I almost lost it. The aftershock of their set was something of a fall out for me and my friends, collected on the floor in amazement. Very memorable. Still shocked, we anxiously waited for Fatboy to come on and close us all out.

Fatboy Slim came out with a wonderful little introductory video production, clipping sounds and reel of Willy Wonka together across the stage with himself standing in the center, a nice little prologue of the journey to come. My favorite track of his was “Kalifornia” considering the geographic setting and the mind bending atmosphere of the tent itself, not to mention the raving fans. Alongside the well known classics, Fatboy remixed his own house blend into the set, also throwing in the more well known anthems of House of Pain and even “Love is in the Air” at the very end. All in all, it was a great closer and something that I felt lucky to witness. People were dancing all the way out the exits into the campsite afterwards. Morning came hours later with the brightest sun in the world melting away my eyelids into the daylight.

Boys Noize (photo by Caesar Sebastian)

Booze in the desert never sounds like a good idea to begin with. My friends and I camped out, and we played drinking games all Saturday morning until the gates opened, skipping the showers and getting breakfast burritos that made me thankful I brought a little hot sauce bottle with me. Our first show on Saturday was Kavinsky. I skipped MGMT in order to see the whole Boys Noize set that followed afterwards. Check out a little sneak peak of what’s to come from his direction- I lost my lid when this banger came on- Project Raven, this summer’s anthem, no doubt. Next up was Erol Alkan, shredding in in all different directions, standing on stage with Boys Noize sharing in the glory of ’07’s electro fanaticism. Throwing down up Sebastian’s “Motor” and Justice’s new “DVNO” remix, among other more recent Ed Banger standards, Erol raised the bar for the rest of the acts to come. “Motor” might have been the most played song all weekend, understandably.

Hot Chip was one of the more anticipated sets in the dance tent. As expected, it was wall to wall with people cramming in to see the set, leaving little room for dancing and me rather put off by the whole ordeal. Some kid was putting pot into balloons and writing ‘nug inside’ and sending them off into the crowd. It was pretty funny to watch. Hot Chip’s set was pretty solid, not unlike their performance a year before, as well as a few weeks prior at the Vic, here in Chicago that I was able to see. Did it deserve the hype? Ehh… not so sure about that. But they did deliver. Heading over across the yard to Portishead, I was confronted with one of the more intense performances of the festival. Ten years since we last saw them, too.. NME said that they had to cut five songs from their set in order to make way for Prince, who seemed to take forever to start it all up, but nonetheless, Portishead delivered well beyond what I could have possibly imagined. The acoustics were wonderful and the crowd was stunned. Prince, as expected, delivered his classic funk infused rock & roll with a little bit of old, and a little bit of new. Highlight? When Prince covered Radiohead’s “Creep”- WOW. I called it after the first bassline, and had goosebumps the entire track through. (I would link it, but all videos have been removed due to copyright..super lame). “From now on, this is Prince’s house!” he declared. No one was ready to debate him on that one. Huffington Post even pressed an article detailing the amazement.

Deadmau5, (photo by Caesar Sebastian)

A few hours later I woke up and started it all up again for the last day. This time I was determined to see the dance acts that I had planned for, unlike the few previous days. So instead of drinking, I found myself getting there early as to catch Holy Fuck. The best way I could describe that group would be to classify them as an electronic jam band. Their performance was quite possibly the best of the festival when you consider that I had no idea what I was getting myself in to. “Lovely Allen” was a moneyshot closer, and left me smiling as I journeyed over to Deadmau5. If you’ve been a long enough reader, you know my adoration of Deadmau5’s style & sound. His technical skill is overwhelming, and his style mixes everything typical of older dance standards with a modern enlightenment that sets him apart from many others that try to do much of the same. As expected, the crowd ate up his Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk & Bloc Party remixes. He should have had a night set, really. Gotta love the mouse head he sports, too. What a performer…

This next segment was my favorite little window of the night- the Booka Shade & Modeselektor sets. Booka Shade sure knows how kick a solid vibe through a dancefloor. Though I was tired, I still couldn’t stop moving to all of it, and now that I put it all in perspective.. I’m super excited to see them this summer at Lollapalooza! Super excited. It’s hard to pinpoint a favorite song out of the hour performance, but if I had to choose I would pick this one. The sunset hit right afterwards, setting a mood that was perfect for the seedy little rave that was to follow. The previous day, all the way up until the set before, I had been telling people to see Modeselektor. I even stopped some people in their tracks on the way to other stages and told them “Modeselektor will be better!” It was. I’m sure of it. So sure that I’d take the pepsi challange to just about any other set on the planet. Modeselektor was that good. This clip is of their track “Hasir” and was one of my favorite tracks they played, among many many others.

SMD, (photo by Ryan Muir)

Alright, I’m gonna get it out of the way already. I missed Roger Waters.. Voluntarily. I knew that I was missing quite a spectacle, one that I probably would never be able to see again, definitely not in that venue at least, but I was determined to stick it through in the Sahara tent. Simian Mobile Disco came out on a rampage, this time fully utilizing the electric light staffs that they had during their set at Empty Bottle a few months back. Judging between the two performances, it’s safe to say that SMD are ready to rock any size audience that you put in front of them. Check the finale out… Wow! From my take on it, I think they were trying to emphasize a self destruction sequence. I’m surprised I’m not blind and deaf from it all. Chromeo had a daunting task of following it up, and in my opinion they didn’t really deliver. I can understand why they would have their time slot based on all of the hype and success they had in 2007, but after seeing so many amazing dj acts consecutively, it’s damn near impossible for an electro funk band like Chromeo to finish where all their predecessors left off… Chromeo is more stage entertainment rather than a dancefloor spectacle, if you catch my vibe.

Justice was the grand finale of the entire festival, and as the Roger Waters viewers tapered off from the last of the Dark Side set it became instantly clear that everybody knew who Justice was. What was so intimate and dedicated about the Sahara tent fanbase always vanished somewhere into the night. I had fallen into the back row by then, exhausted by the entire weekend where I was able to soak in the entire scene one last time before it all faded back into the reality that I had escaped from only days prior. Last year, I remember falling asleep during the Rage Against the Machine show because I was so exhausted.. To say Coachella is a vacation is one thing. To say that it is leisurely is another.. I remember in ‘07 wondering why Justice hadn’t headlined that year. At the time I had yet to see them live and I was very excited. However, having seen them three times in the last nine months, I already knew what to expect. As for the set, the highlight, much like the show a little while back at the Vic was the “We Are Your Friends” segment. I also really enjoyed the “DVNO” mixup. That one always resonates well with me, especially when it’s the culmination of the most insane weekend you may have ever experienced. I may need therapy after all of it, really. All in all, it was an appropriate ending to the festival when considering the recent lean towards the electronic genre this year. And soon it was all over, and now I’m left counting down the days until next year’s comes round again- or at least until the lineup is released early ‘09.

Who’s coming with me to Lolla? =P

OK. So Coachella is coming up this weekend, and since I don’t live in Phoenix anymore it has proven to be a big hassle to put my trip together. Therefore I created a little guide for myself. And since I have a scanner and I woudl be sure to destroy the original the first day, fuckit. I’m gonna make copies. Here’s a link if you wanna know what I’m going to. You could always check the set times if you will be there, too. I have two problems. One- that I have to choose between The Field & Deadmau5. Sucks. Also, that Bonde Do Role is playing at the same time as Boys Noize. But.. we have never lived in a perfect world, so I’ma let it slide. Also, I totally overlooked Portishead. I will be definitely seeing that show…

The first Pink Skull stuff I heard was their edit of ‘Bump’ by Spank Rock. My buddy Mahoney couldn’t get enough of the intro laugh segment, and we listened to it a whole lot maybe five months ago. They’re another example of the cutting edge music that comes from Philly, composed of a variety of music afficianados that like to take their music in different directions. One of the more recent releases,’Drugs Will Keep Us Together’, is on the Savant Guard label out of brooklyn and it features remixes by Trevor Loveys and 33Hz.

Trouble Everyday - Whats Wrong (Pink Skull Remix)

Hail Social - One U Love (Pink Skull Mix)

So let’s check back on that little Radiohead contest. So far there are some awesome tracks worth reposting, ranging from Holy Fuck to Anticon. That’s some range there.. But one of the more slept on versions is by a guy out of Budapest called We Plants Are Happy Plants. His songs have a lot of thought put into them. Either that, or they just make me think a lot. It’s hard to differentiate between the two, really.. Either way, the melancholic motive of it all becomes so clear even during the first few moments of it’s intro. The ‘Paranoid Android’ remix will be a little bonus that I can throw at you via WPAHP himself. I’ll be sure to follow this one up with some more of his work.

Radiohead - Nude (We Plants Are Happy Plants Remix)

And just for the fuck of it, let’s throw out some Prodigy remixes. These 90’s standards are both touched up by the likes of UK electro bangers Calvertron & Will Bailey, adding a little twist to an already potent cocktail. I would love to see the ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ remix dropped on a crowd. That sight would be pretty sweet.

The Slips are a UK duo that have been long overdue for their internet glory- I’m sure they’ll be coming to a city near you in the following year or two. A duo consisting of David Treahearn & Rob Haggett, they’re another reason why England is awesome and they’ve been gaining momentum lately, a lot of which came from their killer CSS remix they did a little bit ago. This weekend, on Friday the 25th, they’ll be opening with Alex Metric. That oughta turn some heads for sure. Metric is spinning a two hour set at ibar, too. True it’s not in Chicago, it’s in Bournemouth, which I couldn’t point out on a map for the life of me because I’m a stupid yankee.. but it should be a fun time.

The Crookers are coming! The Crookers are coming! TWO month(s) from today, they are scheduled for June 20th. So, grab your gasmasks and stock up on dry foods and bottled water! Confirmed for their date by James Amato of PottyMouth Records and SmartBar notoriety, we’re in for one helluva show. I’d recommend buying a ticket ahead of time because this act is gonna be highly anticipated not only by yours truly, but probably every other electrohead in the city. Here’s a nice little Whip remix to chew on while you’re waiting for the insanity.

The Whip - Trash (Crookers Remix)

Finally a new Twelves track that I can throw out there. Man, I was waiting for a looong time for more from the Brazillian duo- only to find this Theatre of Disco remix that was posted only a little while back in a few places. If you haven’t heard of them since their MIA, Kylie & Thieves Like Us remixes, you have some serious homework to do. Here’s the assignment. When are they gonna head north of the equator for a few shows around my hood? I’m sure that there are plenty of clubs in this city that woud love to host ‘em. Wtf.

Theatre Of Disco - YOA (The Twelves Remix)

Local Hero straight beat me to the punch. I’ve been on his HeartsRevolution remix for a few days, ready to toss it up here when he went and did it himself on my comments section a few posts pack. I guess I was asking for it- quite literally. But I’m gonna have to go and follow through on my original intent. Quite a sick track, the amount of variation I have seen in the array of remixes coming from HeartsRevolution’s direction is spectacular. Very exciting. So far, I think Local Hero’s is the winner, though. Be sure to cop the first single, “Majik”, off of angels new album as well as upcoming remixes for Dizzee Rascal and HeartsRevolution’s next single “Switchblade” (April 21st).

HeartsRevolution - CYOA (A2 and Local Hero Remix)

One of the more exciting groups to have been added to the Coachella lineup this year is Portishead. I’m sure you’re already familiar with their masterpieces, being that redthreat is home to a pretty select variety of music already, but you may not know that Portishead is set to release a new album, ten years from the last studio release, entitled Third. UK newspapers have been on a journalistic parade over what they have heard so far. Expect a battered and bitter record. Though Beth Gibson is quoted saying that she hates touring, I am certainly not going to miss their performance (right before Prince on the main stage.. eff yeah.) While searching, I found this excellent Exillon remix that twists an electro thread through an already tortured and battered track. The Oakland native got it done right. Big ups to Culture Bully for the sneak peak.

Portishead - We Carry On [Later With Jools Holland 04-15-2008]

Gotta give it to A-Trak. He is sure able to take an already banging track and spin it on it’s head. There’s a party in my brain every time I hear one of his tunes, they truly are meant for live performances. Some songs are what I would call “headphone music”- his transcend so effortlessly, leaving me one question: why is he wasting any of his time with Clownye West? What a waste.. On another note, any chance to listen to anything new regarding Boys Noize is one worth taking. He deserves the highest amount of respect when it comes to being the sickest of sick DJs- Also performing at Coachella (the most anticipated set on my behalf, by far..) I’ll be the one being sedated in the center of the crowd halfway through by a team of security dudes.

Boys Noize - Oh! (A-Trak Remix)

Boys Noize - Oh!

Revisiting one of my favorite DJs, Cajuan, I decided to do a little feature on his music. The Pink Grease remix has been around for a hot minute now, but after a few months of not hearing it (for some reason, I never hear Cajuan’s tracks in the clubs around Chicago =( …) I decided that it might be appropriate to toss it up there and see if I could change that. Cajuan’s Raven EP is one of the more amazing releases that has shaped my view of electronic music. Dark, gritty, electro, successfully implementing attitude on top of a more dark and atmospheric descent, it stands out to this day as a work of genius. More recently, I found the Alex Gopher remix over on StreetKiss- another excellent, French music blog that consistently demands attention. I think they are actually number one on hypemachine popular right now, so I’m sure they’re doing just fine without my mention, but they deserve their credit.. Top top that off, and close this one out, here’s a mixtape of Digitalism and Cajuan playing Nocturnal in February. Sickness.

Aside from working, I am anxiously awaiting two things. The third Bloody Beetroots appearance in this city in the last two months. This time it will be with LA Riots again at Smartbar for free. They say nothing comes for free. But sometimes they are full of shit. If only the drinks were free. Then, next week is Coachella. I’ll do a huge post on my schedule for that one. Fucking Prince signed on for a measly five mil. I’m expecting the greatest performance ever. Who’s going? Hit me on my AIM: Disqord. See ya there

Metric - Combat Baby

This Breakbot remix of “Aerius Light” has been getting a lot of attention over here the last week or so. Not a new release, but definitely worth checking out if you haven’t had a chance to take a listen yet. A more recent track coming from Breakbot’s way is Stereo Provolone. It’s almost as if it picks up right where the Aerius remix left off. Breakbot always makes such distinct music. This month he’s been touring in Australia with PNAU. For all of you Aussies down under, I’m pretty jealous. Not gonna lie.

Another killer track that has had my attention is the Tronik Youth remix of Joy Division’s “She’s Lost Control”. Through that I stumbled upon the Headman remix, only leading me to further explore his more recent work and anticipate his album release on the 2nd of June.

Joy Division - She’s Lost Control (Tronik Youth Shred It Edit)

Calling In Sick hit me up a few days ago and sent me a link to their new Bag Raiders remix. Complete with glaring distortions and a wicked slap bass intro, it’s been a refreshing take that holds up to the other tracks that I’ve gotten around to posting. CIS After a little digging, I also came across the Toecutter version of it as well- another sturdy, glitchier rendition. Totally different visions here that share the same influence. Big ups to Fried My Little Brain for the latter. I’ll toss on an older ‘cutter track as well for another little taste.

Philthy B from the Villains let me know that he recently left the group (on good terms) to embark on a new project he’s starting called After Midnight. To get the word out, he threw together a nasty little mixtape for you all to enjoy. In this mix, it becomes clear to me where his previous influences come from. Keep an eye out for more nasty work from his direction.

Philthy Phil - Winter Mix

Here we have the Mystery Jets track “Young Love” remixed by Shoes for you to listen to. My first impression of it is a likening to some of the great love songs by Paul McCartney: not too terribly complicated of a message, wrapped in a wonderfully catchy riff that begs for a second listen. And Switch on a remix? Nothing short of amazing. I expect great things from the ‘Jets in the future, and you should to. Go check out their myspace page and give the album promo a listen, their full length is out on the 28th.

Every song I listen to that the Hey Champ DJs get their mits on is solid gold. Not to mention the anthem banger for our city here, I can’t get enough of “In The White City”- Wow. That track should be spun in every set on every night in Bucktown for the next three years. Christ, that song bangs. To top that off, they dropped a mixtape that they crafted for a German radio show a little bit ago.

Tasty New Wave goodness from the likes of poptronica artists Ready Fire Aim. Hailing from Brooklyn, “So Fine” is a single off of their newly released album “This Changes Nothing”. They have a really consistent vibe and the other tracks that I’ve had a chance to listen to live up to the one I’ve posted below.

Hey, this is Agnoek again, and I’ve been wanting to make a feature with only Australian songs, mainly because The Presets will be releasing their second album, Apocalypso, on April the 12th. Their second single of the album, which will be released the 12th of May by Modular, is named “This Boys In Love” and has been remixed by Presets member Kimberly Moyes aka K.I.M., Jori Hulkonen, Lifelike and Kevin Saunderson.

The Presets – This Boys In Love (K.I.M. Remix)

Another great Aussie outfit are Grafton Primary. The Miami Horror and Hey Now remixes of their song “I Can Cook” have gotten massive coverage. Act Yo Age had a go at this as well. They’re signed to DJ Ajax’s new label Sweat it Out, along with other well known names on that label are Redial and Gameboy/Gamegirl, who have been featured here a bit recently.

And following in the wake of all of The Videoband feedback regarding their remixes, here is an original song to take a listen to. I have to couple that with a Robyn remix that raises the bar quite a bit.

The Videoband – COMPUT3R

I got to know about the Acid Jacks through Boy 8-Bit who remixed their first song “Awake Since 78″. They will be releasing an EP, that is said to be taking it back to the acid house party feel of their younger years. The Praire Cartel from Chicago have just released their first 12 inch: Long Nights, Impossible Odds, featuring four jacking songs.

Praire Cartel - Keep Everybody Warm (Acid Jacks Rejack)

Also from Chicago is Potty Mouth Music, who have a roster of artist who bring you the dirty fidget house, you all love. Artists like Crookers, The Bulgarian, Heavyfeet, Hijack and Santiago & Bushido have found a warm home there.

The Bulgarian – Listen Man (Mr. Elastik Remix) [removed by request]

A new Bloody Beetroots song is always something to look forward to, especially if it is a remix of South Central. I haven’t heard from Pornophonics before, but they have gotten some attention on a couple of blogs. The Beetroots will also be coming back to Chicago later this month with LA Riots on what will be their 3rd appearance in the city in the last 2 months.

And if we can feature one pair of Italians, why not feature another even more famous pair of Italians? Namely, the Crookers, who will also be in Chicago this June according to some trustworthy sources. Their remixes keep popping up all over the place. And according to their Myspace we can also expect a new album coming out here pretty soon.

So I survived my first week at the new job. Train rides. Loud noises and sky scrapers. Days where sometimes the only real music I can hear before night comes from a saxophone in between the train and my office. It’s an interesting experience, but allows for a lot less nightlife. Go figure. Sorry about the hiatus, blog posting will resume as usual after this entry..

So for Friday night I went to see Mr Scruff at Smartbar. He was spinning an old school set of every classic american genre to date, everything from disco to blues and to the elementary hip hop that caught my ear years back. After coming from Mannequin earlier that night, it was a nice refreshment. Each club promotes house a different way, but saying that reggaeton is chicago dance music is almost laughable. Good music should be the center focus at nightclubs, not bogus promotional services that have lost sight of what a real party is.

Lamb - Gold (Mr Scruff Remix)

And on to the music. Le Castle Vania sent me a new track of his. “Trouble In Daylight” was one of the first tunes that I posted on this blog at it’s very beginning. I’ve yet to see his set, which sucks, but after asking, he said that he’s working on getting back here to Chicago for a gig. Other than that, I’ll be keeping an eye out for him around the Coachella circuit later this month (who’s going? hit me up and let me know your plans if you are)…

Kill The Noise - Hey You (Le Castle Vania Remix)

Loud Pipes also updated me with a Foals remix that is pretty tight. Apparantly they’re having a remix contest, with a website featuring a few of the contenders.Pretty sick what has come around from it, I’ll probably toss out a few more of them the next time around. Loud Pipes always kill it.

Foals - Electric Bloom (Loud Pipes Remix)

It looks like the “Post It” section is coming along pretty well, it’s nice to have an open forum. I definitely want to help people throw their music out there. One suggestion that I took to heart was Inside Out Boy, who does a pretty killer little remix of Daft Punk’s “Stronger” that is essence an ensemble of previous remixes into one consolidated piece. Not too shabby!

Inside Out Boy - Work It Better (Daft Punk)

Back to Chicago for a quick minute, we have here a HeartsRevolution “CYOA” remix, this time done by our hometown heroes, Flosstradamus. It’s always exciting to have them back in town for a bit. Even moreso when they drop tracks that make me look forward to it even more. Kickass.

HeartsRevolution - CYOA (Flosstradamus Remix)

Discodust turned me on to some sick music the other day. Here’s Grum, from England, blowing up my ipod in the last few days on the trainrides when I’m passing out for the short duration before I get to work. He’s got a new NLLR mixtape that I’ll put up in a few days or so. Until then, enjoy these!

Grum - Go Back

Grum - Heartbeats (Edwin Van Cleef Remix) (removed by request, more grum to come..)

I haven’t posted a Kissy Sell Out Track in a short while, so here’s a remix by Metal On Metal that should do the trick.

Kissy Sell Out - Her (Metal On Metal Remix)

Lets close this one out with a little more Plimsouls. I was sent this one a few weeks back but forgot to upload it because I’m super ADD (go figure). Anyways, this one has become another nice addition to the lightweight and floaty collection of Plimsoul’s portfolio that I has grown on me so much. I still think the “Find the Time” remix is so sick. It lifts my spirits every time I hear it.

He has some sick wallpapers to check out if you like anime. Tip: view the images in a seperate window for the full sizes.

First let me point out a new addition to the site: right on the left hand side there’s now a “Post Music” button that you can follow if you want to throw up some of your music or events. It’s all about you, and I’d love the interaction/discussion… I plan on adding a “Chicago Icons” tab as well, featuring links to artists/venues/promoters that will help navigate this crazy city. Stay tuned.

Now on to the music. More Neon Coyote on the way here, this time a clever little edit of the Radioclit remix of Bonde Do Role’s “Gasolina” as well as a Sid & Nancy/Symbol One/MIA cut- gotta love it. Their vocal work continuously bangs, balanced and forthright, these guys are so tight. Wanna hear what they pound like live? Check out the Cakeshop Disco mixtape. Versatile. I could probably do without the PDiddy (I’m just a hater. lol)- but God! That Kelis remix is hot. And just wait until I get the greenlight to post some of Chico Love’s gangster mixes, he’s another Epic Banger that chills with the ‘Coyote. I’m sitting on a tape that’s burning a hole through my jeans. Patience is a virtue I suppose.

True enough to my word, I was able to score another Redial track. I gave the Sydney group an intro last week, and here is a follow up track called “Close Them”, and close them it does. Very much an anthem-electro tune, it starts out with a Twilight Zone feel and progresses into a full-on fist pumping onslaught.I’m sure it resonates twice as well live as it does on your headphones. I’ll be looking forward to hearing more of their stuff.

Redial - Close Them

A little bit late to the topic, I’ve been banging out Stereoheroes in my car ritually. What else is a loud stereo system for, eh? “Fing Fang Foom” reminds me of the SebastiAn “Motor” track that winds up and up and up and up. It’s like muscles contracting until they snap in half. Or an engine pushing and pushing until it finally explodes. Anyone ever seen “Neon Genesis“- right at the ending when everyone is blowing up.. (not gonna ruin the ending)? It’s like that. Someone reading this has seen it. No doubt. Screw it, I’m featuring all that artwork today.

Stereoheroes - Fing Fang Foom

After checking out You Can Call Me Peslki, another great blog that kicked off at the start of the year (though he’s on a hiatus for a little bit as of now), I found an overlooked Klaxons remix that took me for a ride. The track has been around for over a year and a half, but for some reason was posted on relatively few music blogs despite being a great take on the Klaxons staple. And for some icing, here’s another Crookers track that I found at Pelski as well. Killer bounce, wicked drum rolls.. A pocket ace for any DJ trying to get a crowd movin’.

Klaxons - Atlantis To Interzone (Ayia Napa To Interzone Tapedeck Remix)

This one isn’t a Neon Genesis pic, it’s a Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya image. Not quite sure what that is, but the pic is pretty sweet. So whateva.

I thought that I was done posting the Yelle “Ce Jeu” remixes, but they just keep popping up on my radar and I can’t quite shake my adoration for the original, so here we are: “Ce Jeu” straight merked by The Videoband. I’m not sure how you spell ‘merk’, but in Chicago, my buddies say that in place of kill, as in “my landlord is such an asshole, someday he’s gonna come over and I’m gonna straight merk him and throw his body in the dumpster.” This aches of a Sesame Street episode (btw it’s Mr. Rogers’ 80th BDay) but the term was new to me when I moved back here and I thought I would share it with you.. Anyways, The Videoband is an outift out of Rotterdam that I stumbled upon after my last Kills remix post by NiteCells over at Tuftsmania (always always great music). They have a few killer (and i mean fucking killer) remixes that are worth taking a look at, and they’re one of the few groups that rock so hard and yet have little attention thus far. I’m sure that will change very rapidly. I’ll try to get more of their stuff, but for now this is what I have to offer you.

Justice is in town tomorrow for the Chicago wing of their Myspace Music Tour featuring Diplo , and if you remember the last gig at Smartbar- one: you weren’t partying hard enough, and two: you probably already have tickets to the event. And if you do, you should feel special because the show sold out some time ago, leaving people on craigslist both desperate and demanding. It’s a shame. I had two extras that I was planning on posting about, but they’ve been had already. Sorry. I told you cats a while back to go and cop tickets (go buy Hot Chip tickets, btw)… Here’s a video of Genesis taken recently that I found on Youtube if you want to prep yourself for it all. Look at the comments for firsthand accounts. Looks like they have a different light setup than the last time I saw them. I guess we’ll see.

Scenerio Rock - Skitzo Dancer (Justice Remix)

Justice - Phantom Pt. II (Boys Noize Remix)

But if you slept on those tickets and are kicking yourself right now, don’t be discouraged- there is an afterparty at Sonotheque where the Parisian duo will be spinning for a charity event with Sirhan, John Herndon and the Gutter Butter DJs. So you’ll be able to catch a party tonight if you get there early. I’m guessing really early. There’s also a party at Debonair with Diplo, Dani Deahl, Derek Specs, Joe Vortech & Local Hero! Aaand, there’s the FlybyNight event with Dave Nada, Jackie O, Willy Joy & Capcom at Empire Liquors across the street! Not to mention an afterparty for that over at Evil Olive with DJ Zebo!! Christ Almighty!

But you’ll more than likely catch me at Smartbar, however, for The Bloody Beetroots‘ own version of the afterparty with The Glamour. Judging by how hard they rocked at Vision the other weekend with MSTRKRFT & Lazaro Casanova, I’m really looking forward to more ‘Beetroots. Few rock parties that hard. Here’s a new song of theirs floating around recently, that I found through onewordfish. Really clean. You might remember it from the Justice X-Mas mix that I posted a little while back.

One of the more interesting compilation projects of last year was the Buffet Libre Verbena Selected mixtape. The idea was to take some of the larger up-and-coming electronic acts and ask them to contribute one of their favorite songs into a full length piece produced by Buffet Libre. 15,000 downloads within less than 3 months later, they started thinking that maybe it might be time for a follow-up. Today I was sent the second compilation in their series, with tracks courtesy from everyone from Cut Copy to The Glimmers to Girl Talk. It’s really interesting to see what some of these groups picked as their songs.

Buffet Libre DJs - Verbena Selected 2

For another experiment, we have us the Verbena Rewind project, where the Buffet Libre DJ’s went around requesting a whole bunch of bloggers, including Pardon My Freedom, Get Weird Turn Pro, IHeartComix, D Squared and a whole lot of great music sources (including me ;oP) a single 80’s track for another mix. And the results are great, each saying a lot about the individual people who participated and how early music influenced them. It’s all very reflective. I chose “Six Different Ways” for my single because I’m a huge Cure fan and because that song is totally awesome. Compiled into a two part mixtape, there are separate files and tracklistings. Enjoy.
