Redthreat Lollapalooza Afterparty Guide

Devo & Dirty Projectors : Thursday // August 5th // Congress Theater

More of a pre-party, really. Devo & Dirty Projectors are playing the largest, yet most intimate venue in the city: Congress Theater. Best of the best, new & old- I’m not sure who to be more excited for.

Dirty Projectors – I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine

The New Pornographers & The Dodos : Thursday // August 5th // Metro

Canadian super-group, The New Pornographers, released Together, their fifth release with collaborations including St. Vincent & Beirut. The Dodos are also awesome- a San Fran rock group known for unique instrumentation.

The New Pornographers – Moves

Cymbals Eat Guitars : Thursday // August 5th // Schubas

A New York based indie group, when they first emerged on the scene pitchfork fell in love with their debut album, Why There Are Mountains. Like all the bands listed sofar, Cymbals Eat Guitars also have a Lollapalooza slot.

The Big Pink : Thursday // August 5th // Lincoln Hall – Read in Previous Post.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros : Friday // August 6th // Lincoln Hall

Edward Sharpe, a fictitious character, “was sent down to Earth to kinda heal and save mankind…but he kept getting distracted by girls and falling in love.” This rock-ensemble has been on a roll since their ’09 debut, Up From Below.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – The 40 Day Dream

Wild Beasts : Friday // August 6th // Empty Bottle

The Mercury Prize always seems to find great nominations for best album, and Wild Beasts’ We Still Got The Taste Dancin’ On Our Tongues is no exception. The lead singers got some pipes on him, doesn’t he?

Wild Beasts – We Still Got The Taste On Our Tongues

Kaskade & James Amato : Friday // August 6th // Smartbar

If you want to start off your night where Perry’s Stage left off, here’s your place. Kaskade’s residency night always gets packed, and this afterparty has the king of fidget, James Amato, back in his home away form home.

The Soft Pack : Saturday // August 7th // Schubas

The Soft Pack are an indie/punk(ish?) band out of LA, originally hailing from San Diego, where they were known as The Muslims. I’m very much looking forward to seeing for the first time. Pick up The Soft Pack.

The Soft Pack – Answer To Yourself

The National & The Antlers : Saturday // August 7th // House Of Blues

Many people are waiting for Matt Berninger’s huge barritone vocals to be the upset of the festival here this weekend. This show is sold out, so if you weren’t intending on seeing them at Lolla, you might want to reconsider.

The National – Slow Show

Wavves : Saturday // August 7th // Empty Bottle – Read this Previous Post.

Health : Sunday // August 8th // Reggie’s – Read this Previous Post.

Digitalism : Sunday // August 8th // Lincoln Hall

Digitalism is easily one of my favorite electronic acts, and they never come to Chicago. Their debut, Idealism, is a masterpiece. Catch their aftershow, with many other incredible Chicago DJ talents & go out with a bang.

Digitalism – Pogo

Phoenix & Toro Y Moi : Sunday // August 8th // House Of Blues

I’m sure you all know Phoenix by now. Saw ‘em at Coachella this year and they were awesome. Toro Y Moi is the stagename for Chazwick Bundick, who creates music that I am extremely fond of. Simply gorgeous stuff.
