“Ok. I have an idea. I am going to put Yolanda Be Cool with DCUP. The latter makes certified disco bombs and the former…well..yeah…their last track was named after the Cocoon resident….but who knows….maybe together they will make a dancefloor bomb bud.” -YBC

Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP – We No Speak Americano

“You’re gonna love the house.” -DJ Mehdi to Riton ..when he invited him for a tour of the Chicago ghetto music he’s been stashing for 3 years, waiting for the best moment to reveal it in all its glory.

Carte Blanche – In The Mix

Joe Flory aka Primary 1 is back and he’s got ‘The Blues’. Taking from his forthcoming debut album proper, out in the Autumn on Atlantic Records, ‘The Blues’ features the crystalline vocals of Nina Persson. Keep your eyes peeled for a stunning video and much much more from Primary 1.

Noodleman Mixtape 01

February 28, 2010

Hell yeah, more Noodleman goodness. More soulful & vibrant Deep Disco that he’s known for. I am way into his work.

If I were you I’d grab a copy of Noodleworks 01.

Fallen Hero

February 26, 2010

NUfrequency just put out an EP on Rebirth, Fallen Hero, which showed up on Beatport with some incredible remixes by Mark E, Amillionsons, Rennie Foster and this fabulous Motor City Drum Ensemble version.

This one’s  deeper than most contemporary techno I listen to, with Ben Onono’s haunting vocals that add to the tone and beauty of the work.

Efficient Machine

February 24, 2010

Isn’t that artwork crazy? Kasper Bjorke‘s latest album, Standing On The Top Of Utopia, features a track that has been getting heavy play over here since discovery. “Efficient Machine” was easily my nomination for best song of the month on the Grindin’ February chart. Very smooth.

Recently, Ali Love‘s Love Harder received the remix treatment from a certain Prins Thomas, king of space disco. Stretching the pop track into a nine minute piece, Thomas’ vision was a little different than Jokers of the Scene, who also have a version that has been hitting the blogs pretty hard in the last 48 hours. Glad to see some diversity with the release.

Ali Love – Love Harder (Prins Thomas Diskomiks)

Featured on the upcoming Seth Troxler Boogybites release, this one is Nicolas Jaar‘s “A Time For Us,” a driving & mellow techno gem that begs for another listen. A very strong release on Wolf+Lamb back in January, I’d encourage you to pick up the release and taking a look through the label catalog when you can.

Nicolas Jaar – A Time For Us

I haven’t done any throwbacks in much too long. This one is a bonafied classic. A remix by Paul Epworth, or Phones, as he used to be called, the original is The Futurehead‘s “Hounds of Love.” In 2007 this track made it to my top 3 of the entire year- even though technically it was made in late 2006. We’re all wrong sometimes, right?

Vitalic @ Empty Bottle

February 21, 2010

Vitalic is back in North America for the first tour since 2006, playing at Empty Bottle on Tuesday and supporting his sophomore breakthrough, Flashmob.

This past decade has been quite a conquest for this artist, storming the scene in ’01 with Poney EP, and following it up with the legendary OK Cowboy full length. Still a milestone, really. This will be a live show, so I’m expecting the world – LA friends said he killed it last night, so…

Vitalic – See The Sea (Red)

Vitalic – Second Lives (Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Daft Punk – Technologic (Vitalic Remix)

This first-ever “piano mixtape” offers a unique and masterful blend of Chilly’s piano and orchestral sounds with hip hop beats and electro. If you’re in New York, you should check out Gonzales’ residency at Joe’s Pub before it expires.

New Penguin Prison to report as well! “Something I’m Not” premiered earlier today, to be unleashed as the b-side on the The Worse It Gets. The release is up for pre-order over at Neon Gold if you are so inclined. Expect news on the Starsmith & Russ Chimes remixes that are to come hopefully sooner than later.

Penguin Prison – Something I’m Not

Daedelus is back for the second time in two months, playing at Lincoln Hall on Tuesday night with Nosaj Thing. No rest for the wicked. You might have caught him up north spinning at Kinetic Playground back in December. I was unfortunate enough to miss that one, but from others’ recollections it was quite a spectacle. XXXchange also has a new release you should grab ahold of.

Daedelus – Make It So (XXXchange Remix)

The xx – Islands (Nosaj Thing Remix) -the untold remix is ace, too.

The White Panda threw out a new mash on their website earlier today. It’s an unlikely pairing of both Junkie XL & Obie Trice’s work and it gets me really worked up when i listen to it. Nicely done party hit material.

The White Panda – Got Some Stratosphere

Stylo

February 15, 2010

If they were trying to make me even more hysterical about seeing them at Coachella this year, Gorillaz fully succeeded. Two remixes have graced the web in the past 24 hours, by two of of the most talented remix artists you can find: Alex Metric and Yuksek.

Both tunes are undeniably huge, Metric’s first made an appearance at the end of his very recent Radio1 gig. I’m definitely eagerly anticipating Plastic Beach- It seems like March just won’t come quickly enough..

Gorillaz – Stylo (Yuksek Remix)

Gorillaz – Stylo (Alex Metric Remix)

Paradise Lost

February 15, 2010

I have another beautiful Gui Boratto remix for you today. It’s the 11th track off of the long-awaited Massive Attack album, Heligoland, and features vocals by Hope Sandoval. The “Paradise Circus” remix follows Boratto’s unmistakable formula, producing a very lush and vibrant track, and a relaxing listen.

Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto Remix)

Boom Boom Room

February 15, 2010

Tonight, Green Dolphin’s Boom Boom Room is the place to be. Stopping through in the middle of the RebelRave Tour, Damian Lazarus and Jamie Jones are going to be throwing down harder than any Monday night Chicago has seen in a hot minute. It’s gonna get a little crazy in there.

Jamie Jones – Turning Tables

Damian Lazarus – Moment

She Comes Alive

February 10, 2010

Oregon electronic outfit, Baby Monster, who you might recognize from the cherished Ellie Goulding remix I posted a bit ago, are back with an original as of yesterday that I am happily playing continuously to myself.

The track is titled “She Comes Alive,” quite appropriately named for the debut release through fellow Grinders, Big Stereo Records. For something to look forward to, keep an eye out for Golden Bug & Jock Seams remixes and get ahold of a limited vinyl pressing which will be available shortly for a limited time.

Noodleman

February 7, 2010

Continuing on a disco path here’s  Noodleman, a deep disco dj/producer from our close neighbor to the north. Reworked, reedited and heavily buttered, I’m really liking his stuff. He’s signed to the Toronto label, Vibing Records, who’s motto is cooking deepness and enjoying serving it to people. The Noodleworks 001 EP will be released this Thursday, February 11th.

Oliver Cheatham – Get Down It’s Saturday Night (The Noodleman Edit)

Silver Convention – Fly Robin Fly (The Noodleman Lost Temple Dub)

Stephanie Mills – It Doesn`t Feel Like Christmas (The Noodleman Sugar Cane Edit)

Rockets – On The Road Again (The Noodleman Edit)

February 6, 2010

Bothers Johnson – Stomp (Only Children Remix)

You can catch Only Children live here in Chicago the next two Fridays. First at One Night Stand’s Heart Attack! with Moneypenny, Kid Color & Team Bayside High. Next Friday at Trick Disco with Ghosts Of Venice, Le Principle & OCD Automatic.

John Dahlback @ Spybar

February 5, 2010

John Dahlback, Sweedish DJ/Producer and owner of Pickadoll Records will be at Spybar tonight! I can’t put in words how amazing his last gig was in July. If you were there you know what I’m talking about. Oh, and the cover is free if you mention you’re with ‘ego‘ at the door, courtesy of my fine friend John.

Here’s a a little bit of motivation for you, an original kicked around a bit by one of my favorite techno giants, Sebo K. Not necessarily new, but it certainly hasn’t gotten old yet. Where’s that Sebo K tour already!?

Rocket

February 2, 2010

Looks like we have us a new Grum piece. It’s one of several Goldfrapp “Rocket” remixes that are sure to emerge. I have to say- Alison’s vox and Grum’s glittery synths are pretty nice together. I’m really looking forward to hearing the Penguin Prison one. Hopefully we’ll see that sooner than later. For a sure bet, Head First, the next full length to come from Goldfrapp, will be out in early March.

Haitian Relief Party @ The Red Canary

February 1, 2010

Ladies Aiding Haiti in association with Save The Children will be hosting a fund raiser for Haitian Relief at The Red Canary (695 N. Milwaukee) on Thursday, February 4th. They’re asking for a (suggested) $20 at the door and all funds raised will be matched by The Red Canary. [details]

Thanks to the charity of several local businesses, there will be complimentary cocktails, hors d’oeurves, chair massages, gift bags, and so forth. Music will be provided by DJs Intel, Merk1 and myself so you know it will be awesome. Also- check out the flyer i designed- pretty nice, eh?

Ahhh

February 1, 2010

Sorry guys, kinda in a hurry here so I’ma be brief. Got quite a diverse selection today…

If you haven’t heard of Midnight Conspiracy and you live in the Chicago area, I’m willing to bet you don’t get out much. Here’s the trio’s debut remix of Chromeo‘s “Night By Night.” Mmm. Sweaty synthesizers…

Chromeo – Night By Night (Midnight Conspiracy Remix)

Man, Beyonce cleaned up last night. Here’s the Major Lazer rendition of “Halo,” which is something a little more palatable for my tastes…

Major Lazer – Halo (Beyonce Cover)

Satoshi Tomiie is back with a new track under the guise of MES. There are also a few Motorcitysoul remixes on the single as well- well worth checking out, I always love their direction.

MES (Satoshi Tomiie) – Back To Basics

Got these new Edu K joints in the mail yesterday. Nothing to complain about there! Especially considering that it also included a Brodinski version! Yay!

Edu K – Flutesnoot
