One remix that I wasn’t aware of until a couple of weeks ago was this Style of Eye take on “We Are The People” by Empire of the Sun. A sexy minimal-techy vibe suits this one just fine with me. It’s one of many nice tracks featured on his Essential Mix that was put out back in June.

Empire of the Sun – We Are The People (Style of Eye Remix)

Sticking with great combos, Diplo & Laidback Luke got together on a single titled “Hey” that Foamo did a little number on. An example of a solid dancehall with a more aggressive fidget slant on it. Very nice.

Diplo & Laidback Luke – Hey (Foamo Remix)

This one is a favorite of mine for a little bit now. A Slam remix made back in ’05- not a new track by any means, just kind of late coming around to it. It’s epic. Put together by Robag Wruhme of Wighnomy Brothers, these 2 almost single-handedly switched up my focus on music since I saw them at DEMF.

Slam – This World (Robag Wruhme & Wighnomy Bros Remix)

Speaking of Ost & Kjex, I would feel like I’ve slighted you all in some way if I didn’t post this. Brought to my attention by Keytars & Violins- of which I probably couldn’t say enough good things- I have been playing this spacy little disco Maurice Fulton remix since it was brought to my attention in the beginning of July. So so soo good.

Giselle [2, 3]

First off, I have to go and post something on this because I’m pretty amped for this weekend. Not only did I take today off and get 12 hours of sober sleep last night, but Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem is going to be at Smartbar tonight!! Bonus! Not much explanation needed for that one, I’m sure I’ll see a lot of you local heads there.

LCD Soundsystem – No Love Lost (Joy Division Cover)

It pays to keep an eye on the Beatport charts. This week, Radio Slave put up a list of some tracks he’s into. Resting at the number one slot is a track by Echologist titled “Hustle,” out on the single release on Radio Slave’s Rekids label. I’ll let you go dig that one up yourself, but for some incentive, here’s an older Echologist track that I’ve liked for a little while now.

Echologist – Faith (NY Mix)

Damn Arms is broken up. I didn’t want to believe it either, but at least we have us a few remixes from what was at one point their forthcoming work on Bang Gang. If you have only heard the Ted & Francis remix, but you should definitely check out this remix by Jaunt.

Damn Arms – Destination (Jaunt Remix)

MayBB is dropping some heat on Kitsune lately. Prefacing his release at the end of the month comes this tasty little mini-mix. It features both “Touring In NY” tracks, one original and one remix by Blatta & Inesha, as well as the Crystal Fighters remix that MayBB completed recently. And the mystery behind who MayBB is? I’m not sure, but probably Benny Benassi from what I’ve been hearing.

MayBB Megamix

And while we’re focusing on Blatta & Inesha, let’s talk a little bit about the Rampage EP, War, released on Nightshifters with two remixes by Heavyfeet and one by Blatta & Inesha that does the trick quite nicely. These guys harbor their own intense blend of jackin’ dubstep that could start parties at retirement homes. Enjoy, and have a great weekend y’all!

Evangeline Lilly in all her glory.. I’ve been on a bit of a celebrity kick with the photos lately…

Alright, I’m getting really into this latest James Teej release, the Spending Life EP , out on Rebirth with colossal remixes by the likes of Danny Fiddo & Affkt and Ripperton (who worked that track proper-like), complete with instrumentals and dubs as well. Lovely, really. Take a listen to his latest, Super Symmetry EP, if you’re digging the vibe- it comes with a Wighnomy Brothers remix that is well worth the listen.

James Teej – Spending Life

Dwelling on Ripperton a little more, I’m very surprised that the music blogs are still sleeping. Right before the track posted above, he was selected by Stimming to remix “The Kiss”, adding to what would almost be a dozen remixes and originals that he’s completed so far this year. What takes the cake for me so far in his discography is “Long Distance,” featured on his single release I Love out on Prospectiv alongside Masaya (CH).

Ripperton – Long Distance

Another tasty, techy little treat is the Danton Eeprom remix of his own track produced with Radio Slave titled “Grindhouse”. Consider this a little teaser, because you should definitely pick up the Dubfire remix if you know what is good for you. The track is fanstastic. And continuing on an advisory tip- Get the Dubfire remix of De’Lacy’s lastest track “Hideaway.” Shit’s massive.

Radio Slave – Grindhouse (Danton Eeprom Remix)

Been a little too long since I’ve had a little dubstep in my swing up here, and there’s nobody I’d rather listen to right now than Joker. Remixing this track for The Heavy, I heard it a bit ago and have been playing it a lot in my car lately. The Heavy were also in town the other night at Double Door- anyone catch them?

The Heavy – How You Like Me Now (Joker Radio Edit)

One of my favorite French producers, Joakim, has just released the Watermelon Bubblicious EP on Versatile. Focusing more on an analog production style with this one, he operated alongside a band for it’s recording. Watch out for Nebula Laughter single, and get yourself a copy of the Royksopp remix if you’ve failed that. Here’s one off of the future full lengh, Milky Ways.

Joakim – Spiders

Audiofly @ Spybar [7.06]

July 4, 2009

“No rest for the wicked” is a great quote to live by. Audiofly are going to be playing at Spybar on Monday, July 6th. Door is free all night if you mention “Ego“- courtesy of our fine friend John.

Audiofly are the duo of Luca Saporito and Anthony Middleton, consistently delivering some wonderful techno jams, including a new remix completed for H.O.S.H. and some work done with Alex Flitsch. Below is one of my favorite tunes of theirs titled “Miscalate” remixed by Partial Arts, released in ’07.

Audiofly – Miscalate (Partial Arts Remake)

Using the name Audiofly X to signify a more experimental lean in production, one of their latest Turbo Recordings releases is the Mar Del Plata EP, with a great remix by Nick Curly that owned my stereo throughout June.

Audiofly X – Mar Del Plata 2008

Rekeliner is another moniker when working with Stuart Geddes. This ’08 remix they put together for Adultnapper & Holmar Filipsson is another great listen…

Richie Hawtin @ Smartbar [7.05]

Making his way through Chicago following his set tonight (this moment, really..) at Summerfest, Detroit techno legend Richie Hawtin will be spinning at Smartbar on Sunday, July 5th. It’s gonna get hot in there.

Often times operating under the nomiker Plastikman (among others), Hawtin is known worldwide for his minimal techno sound, and for the record labels he started such as Plus 8, which he founded with John Acquaviva, and M_Nus that he started in ’98.

Though it’s a short stay in the US, he will be in Cleveland and St. Louis on Friday & Saturday before heading back to Europe.

Radiation – Meltdown (Richie Hawtin South of Detroit Dub)

Josh Wink – Don’t Laugh (Richie Hawtin Mix)
(sorry for the abrupt ending on this track it’s taken from a mix)

Zombie Nation came out with a short remix album recently on Turbo Recordings of tracks taken from Zombilicious, that dropped earlier in the year. The release features remixes by Proxy, Arvene & Misk, Milano, Shadow Dancer and Hey Today!. Like the Arveene & Misk remix? You might want to check out Hells Bells, their original that dropped earlier this month.

Zombie Nation – Worth It (Arveene & Misk Remix)

Autokratz have been pumping out releases lately, too. You can pick up the Always More EP, out on Kitsune with the Yuksek remix that has circulated around a bit, along with ones by Shadow Dancer (very busy lately), His Majesty Andre and Goshi Goshi! Glad to see Goshi Goshi pop up again on the radar. I loved “Lock Shot,” such a funky little jam. For one last recommendation, go check out Autokratz’ “Quicksand” remix that most have overlooked recently..

Autokratz – Always More (Goshi Goshi Remix)

Ben Watt released a “Guinea Pig” remix album on Buzzin’ Fly Records, his own label,  featuring more loveliness from DJ Koze- which is always something to celebrate over in these parts- also a curiously coupled remix featuring M.A.N.D.Y. and a lesser-known lad named Smallboy. The track is really nice, and if I were you I’d snag the release while you got your mind on it.

Ben Watt – Guinea Pig (M.A.N.D.Y. & Smallboy Musical Variation Remix)

And while we’re all waiting patiently for Tom Neville & Serge Santiago to yield their latest work under the guise of Retro/Grade, here’s a nice little Neville remix of the amazing track by The Energies titled “Born Again Runner.” You might remember the wonderful work that Lifelike & Fred Falke did for it from earlier posts of mine..

The Energies – Born Again Runner (Tom Neville Tunnel Vision Remix)

John Dahlback @ Spybar [7.03]

July 1, 2009

John Dahlback, Sweedish DJ/Producer and owner of Pickadoll Records, will be in Chicago on Friday, July 3rd, for an early Independence Day celebration at Spybar. Not to mention that the show is free if you mention “Ego Productions” at the door. Guys have ’til 12, Ladies get in free all night long. Who’s up for starting our Saturday off with a hangover? Cheers.

The following track is one of the latest techno numbers from his direction, titled “Penguini.” It’s off of the single release he did alongside his cousin, Jesper, where they form Hugg & Pepp.

Hugg & Pepp – Penguini

A Dahlback classic that I’ve posted up here before is the track “Pyramid,” released as a single in ’08. The remix below caught as much attention, where Dirty South does a nice little number on it.

John Dahlback – Pyramid (Dirty South Remix)

And just because it is July 1st, completely by coincidence I assure you, I have to post up the following track. Certainly accents the warm summer nights we’ve had this past week..

John Dahlback – July First

Yeah

July 1, 2009

Been a little bit since I’ve been able to sit down and write here. Between how beautiful it is outside and how horrible it is working during the Summer, I’ve found some solace drifting between the two listening to the following songs. It would help if my internet was reliable, too. BTW- I updated the concert listings- lots of good stuff hapn’n this month.

It’s also been a while since Rex The Dog has graced my stereo, this time taking on the instant-classic hit by Fever Ray, “Triangle Walks.” On the self-titled release of Fever Ray’s there are other remixes by the likes of Tiga, Allez Allez and Spektre, among others..

Fever Ray – Triangle Walks (Rex The Dog Remix)

Stimming has been heating up the past few months. Releasing Reflections on Diynamics in April, the following track was thereafter remixed by Ripperton and Sascha Funke. Solid cocktail of minimal techno right there

Stimming – The Kiss (Sascha Funke Remix)

WhoMadeWho is stirring up all kinds of trouble with their latest track, “Keep Me In My Plane.” I would have been happy enough with simply the original single release- I feel like a spoiled child now receiving another! Enter Modernaire, The KDMS and the ever-amazing DJ Koze back for a round-two.

Who Made Who – Keep Me In My Plane (Modernaire Remix)

And bringing it back for a minute- some of you might be familiar with the Strangelets remix of Sebastian Tellier‘s cemented anthem, “Kilometer” & “Sexual Sportswear”, blogged and released recently, but have you heard this one? Great Blitz Gramsci remix.

Strangelets – Riot On Planet 10 (Blitz Gramsci Remix)
