a cntrst mix

May 31, 2009

cntrst from Pipedown hit me up with a mixtape with all sorts of solid jams on it today. Recorded in one single session on two CDJs, it’s a window into the producers, sounds, vibes and textures that he’s been into lately.

“[It's] a journey through different tempos, united by sub bass, colourful synths and syncopated rhythms.” -cntrst

Turbo Love

May 28, 2009

Bag Raiders are almost ready to drop their Turbo Love EP on Bang Gang 12s, and I have the Whitenoise remix to share with you off of it. A little something to tide you over.

With other edits compiled by heavyhitters like Shinichi Osawa, K.I.M, Spruce Lee, Flight Facilities and Lightyear, this is one release you might want to get ahold of.

Fischerspooner Giveaway

May 26, 2009

Finishing up the West Coast wing of their tour through the United States, Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner- or Fischerspooner – and their stage production group are steady marching through the Midwest this week, ending in Chicago on Saturday at Metro [tickets].

Just finishing up their latest full-length, Entertainment, this is the New York duo’s first tour in five years, hinting at what’s to come with descriptions of “hairy monsters, feathered chorus girls spitting blood, raucous new versions of their underground hits, and storms of glitter.” Sold.

Thin White Problem

Sneaky Sound System announced a US Tour recently (abbey pub 6/24) and along with the news came this remix. Just the other day I was describing Stuart Price and his many aliases to a friend, how he effortlessly bridges gaps between pop culture and the underground, each time reemerging as one of the most impressive talents in the industry. This song is no exception to his catalog of epic big room hits.

Cream On The Inside

May 20, 2009

Woh! Good friends, Idiot House signs and Hotbizzie affiliates, LOL Boys mixed up a dirty little cocktail composed of Durrough Music “Ice cream Paint Job” and Sukh Knight “Diesel Not Petrol”. It makes me… want to buy an oldschool Cutlass and go hang with Xzibit for a weekend. Get a flossed out drop-top -for free- to cruise down Lake Shore Drive. Unh!

To add to the small collection of superstar remixes of the Phoenix instant classic “Lisztomania” comes the Yuksek treatment. I always look forward to his work moreso than most, confidently placing him at the top of the list of French electro talents.

Phoenix – Lisztomania (Yuksek Remix)

However, I still have to give the crown to Classixx. Yeah, I voted for it. The song couldn’t be any more perfect. Could the May Grindin’ Charts have turned out any other way?

Diddy Bop

Diddy‘s “Diddy Bop” getting a proper reworking by Chew Fu to start this week off. If this isn’t what you would call a party jam, I honestly don’t know what is.

Calling in Sick keep ‘em rolling out here. Enter their Grafton Primary remix of “Allstars” to spice things up for this upcoming week. Great vocal compliments here. “Ignite the future, take us higher!”

Grafton Primary – Allstars (Calling in Sick Remix)

Toddla T threw together an Essential Mix last week that has caught fire the past few days. Loving his influences. Keep an eye out for Skanky Skanky, which should be dropping soon. And speaking of Radio1, peep the Andy George remix of “Manabadman”- shit’s hot.

Another older track I’ve been listening to this week, Jurgen Paape‘s 2007 Motivo single “We Love” is perfect for sunny days & spring fever.

Jugen Paape & Boy Schaufler – We Love

To close this one out, let’s get down with some Joakim. This time he’s worked his magic on Zombie Zombie‘s “Driving This Road Until Death Sets You Free” off of Joakim’s My Best Remixes compilation. There are few artists who have earned their reputation as well as Joakim has, in my eyes.

Hey there friends. It’s been an amazing weekend here in Chicago. The weather is beautiful, people are smiling and biking again. It’s all good. Let’s listen to some music.

Here’s one off of the Jump Around EP that Moonbootica released in ’07, with a “Jump Around” remix by Eyerer and Chopstick. Specifically, it’s the instrumental remix is what I’ve been getting down to this afternoon. Think House of Pain for dancefloors without any mashup feel and you’ve got it. This version doesn’t have the refurbished vocals though- just a bassline to ride out.

Moonbootica – Jump Around (Eyerer & Chopstick Inst. Remix)

Eli Escobar has a remix of Lenka that’s surfaced recently. Big ups to Shitz Popinov for the remix, it’s of “Trouble is a Friend” which is on Lenka’s self titled full length that was released in September. On top of being a great singer, she makes for one helluva photoshoot. I’m in love.

Lenka – Trouble Is A Friend (Eli Escobar Mix)

Kyle got me into WhoMadeWho a few weeks ago and everything I dig up of theirs I seem to love, especially this Tomboy edit of the lesser known but still amazing remix by Hot Chip. It’s been blogged before, but not nearly enough. The remix is off of the TV Friend EP that came out on Gomma late in 2008. It’s simply amazing. And though I mentioned this earlier, if you haven’t yet, you should snag a copy of their latest EP, The Plot.

Superpitcher @ Smartbar [5.01]

May 1, 2009

via Oscar L Tejeda

Another Kompakt heavyweight is strolling through Chicago this weekend. Superpitcher will be playing at Smartbar tonight, May 1st, in what will be something that I can’t pass up seeing having unfortunately missed his Supermayer performance two weeks ago.

Here are a few classics that I want to share with you, in particular the DJ Koze remix. Have some patience and wait for that 2minute marker development. It’s golden.

Superpitcher – Disko! (You Don’t Care)
