So that Buraka Som Sistema show the other night was pretty awesome. Made for a long day at work, but it was worth it. And now that I have a moment to relax, I thought that I’d share a few things that have caught my attention recently.

I’m sure you’re all on the same page as me here. The Field is set to drop his followup full length release Yesterday and Today right around May 18th and for a little taste of what’s to come, we have us “The More That I Do”. For the heads-up, he’ll be in Chicago in the middle of June, touring North America and hitting a lot of cities on the way. Hopefully your’s too, but more on that later.

The Field – The More That I Do

For one that’s been on repeat latley, here’s an Adam Freeland remix done by none other than Zombie Nation for Freeland’s single release, Under Control. I’ll take this time to mention that Zombielicious, his latest release is easily one of the best albums of the year, hands down. Freeland’s touch is seen on the release with his remix of “Get It” that I’m equally enthusiastic about.

Adam Freeland – Under Control (Zombie Nation Remix)

More Zombie Nation in order, this time with a Housemeister remix of “Forza” that is off of the same album described above. This also allows me a minute to throw down an older track of Housemeister’s as well in celebration of his latest release Beef Jerky EP, “Beach Control Berlin Stadt” is a track off of his release Increase Your Dose from 2006. “Beef Jerky” is a nasty little number, you should snag a copy.

Subdrive is sailing uncharted waters these days; “We have officially formed an open-source digital record label launching TODAY… with every single Subdrive release, we plan to include 100% DRM-free stems from the single. These are also available in the highest-quality possible, and by buying them, you are directly supporting the artists. We don’t take a cut of these sales at all. We want everyone, not just producers and professionals, to have the opportunity to try their hand at a remix. And if we hear something we like, we’ll release it and give a cut of the profit to the remixer!” To celebrate they dropped this Terror Dactel track on us, their first sign.

Buraka Som Sistema @ Sonotheque [5.28]

April 27, 2009

Flyer by Mig Reyes

Yea Man! is bringing in Portugal’s own Buraka Som Sistema tomorrow, April 28th, at Sonotheque. Heavily nominated innovators of a sound known as kuduro, recently they released an album titled Black Diamond, which was their first studio produced release. Some of you might have been lucky enough to catch their Coachella appearance last week as well.

Buraka Som Sistema – Aqui Para Voces (Brodinski Remix)

Lykke Li – Dance Dance Dance (Buraka Som Sistema Remix)

And that’s not all, either. Before Buraka Som Sistema land on stage you’ll have a chance to catch DJ Sega, who’s scheduled for all of the US tour dates as well as Chicago’s own Black Holes and B.B.U. Buraka Som Sistema are also heavily touring in the next few months, check the tour schedule for your city.

Spring

April 27, 2009

Art by Michael Tarasov

Took a while to get this post up- was having some technical problems with my host site. All fixed now.

The Proxy straight murdering Tiga‘s “What You Need” is what I need. Packed with anger and static, Proxy certainly paints a moody picture. Oh, keep an eye out for Tiga hitting Congress in one month exactly along with The Prodigy- bigger post to come.

Tiga – What You Need (Proxy Remix)

Grum & Friendly Fires? Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of Grum’s Runaway while you’re at it, out on Beatport right now. Big ups to Discodust for the word.

Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy (GRUM Remix)

Ekleroshock’s DatA is gearing up for a new release, enlisting Australia’s Redial to remix his track, “One in a Million” quite well. I caught word of a spectacular new stage setup as well. Now I’m just wondering when I’m going to get a chance to see it. It’s been a while since DatA (along with Detect) came to Chicago.

Bag Raiders @ Abbey Pub [4.25]

April 24, 2009

The Abbey Pub is bringing in Bag Raiders this weekend. Another great Modular act, I was expecting this to be another weekday party, stopping by en-route to either the east or west coast. I was very happy to see that they are landing in the windy city this Saturday for the climax of their journey through the western hemisphere. Coming with them is Kap10Kurt and opening it all up is Jordan Z.

Midnight Juggernauts – Twenty Thousand Leagues (Bag Raiders Remix)

KIM – By The Time They Reach You (Bag Raiders Remix)

In For The Lifelike

April 15, 2009

(via biomehanika)

And yet another remix to add to Skream and Foamo‘s , making La Roux‘s “In For The Kill” officially one of the hottest tracks of the year. It’s a good morning! There aren’t many artists I look forward to hearing more than Lifelike.

Popular Computer Remix Competition

April 12, 2009

Popular Computer, in partnership with Fairtilizer, kicked off a remix competition for the track “Darling” off of his first full length release Senso Data on Rise Recordings. The deadline is May 10th and you can get the the competiton details and song parts Here.

Having just finished recording his second release in what will become a trilogy, Popular Computer briefly describes it saying “It’s about the human and sun heat.”  And having been a fan ever since his Kitsune Compilation features, I’m exited to see what this competition yields!

An Old Justus Track, Man

April 12, 2009

(via elliot_mess)

After a random request on my part, Justus Kohncke, German DJ/Producer out of Kompact Records sent me a copy of a Neil Young cover he threw together back in 1999. I thought I would share it with you, along with the Friendly Fires‘ “Paris” remix that Justus put together for the single that came out a few months ago.

If you like what you’re hearing, you should check out his latest remix of Ecce’s track “Control” that was featured on the Tirk02 Compilation on Tirk Records.

Adam Bozzetto April Mix

April 10, 2009

Potty Mouth resident mad scientist, Adam Bozzetto, dropped a mixtape a few days ago that caught my ear the other day. A nice follow-up to those wanting more after his Fresh & Bouncy EP, released at the tail-end of February this year.

Bart B More @ SpyBar [4.10]

April 9, 2009

And out of left field comes Bart B More at SpyBar this Friday night with Chicago DJ, Mixin Marc. I’m thinking this room is going to be lit up like a Christmas tree by the time he’s done with it. Known for harder electro jams and great remix work, it was after his debut Newschool Cuts EP when he started to turn heads in scenes across the globe. Now just about everything you can get your hands on that he’s produced is a smash.

*Free cover until 12AM: Say “EGO” at the Door.

Crystal Castles in Chicago [4.10]

April 9, 2009

This Friday, The Crystal Castles are going to be in Chicago first at The Bottom Lounge and then afterwards at Sonotheque to perform a DJ set alongside Jordan Z, Gatekeeper and OneFiftyOne. Photos by Clayton Hauck (everyoneisfamous).

If anyone can remember the last Crystal Castles DJ set at Funky Buddha Lounge about two years ago, they’d know that this isn’t something to pass up. Nobody makes beats like Ethan.

Mutek & The Mole on the Move

April 8, 2009

The MoleTo promote Montreal’s Mutek Festival [lineup] over labor day weekend, Mutek is kicking off a tour with The Mole that will pass through Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Brooklyn, Edmonton, and Vancouver- starting tonight in Montreal. For some online buzz, they also released the MUTEKLIVE05 Podcast of The Mole’s late last week, and I have had it on repeat since I first heard it.

A Canadian dance scene staple, nearing what would be a decade long residency at Laiki in Montreal, The Mole also produces an interesting blend of space disco minimalism. Since being named as one of the “Next 100″ in Urb Magazine in 2004, he has worked on a series of singles and remixes up to his first full length release on Wagon Repair in April 2008, As High As The Sky. Check out one of my favorite singles of his titled “Fat S Edit”, released in 2005 on Philpot as well as the tourdates and lineup.

Jokers of the Scene @ Sonotheque [4.09]

April 7, 2009

The Hood Internet is throwing a party with Fool’s Gold‘s Jokers of the Scene on Thursday, April 9th, at Sonotheque. I didn’t even know about this gig until about a week ago and almost spiked my laptop when saw it. Jokers of the Scene make some of the most interesting and eclectic dance music out there, and seem to absorb and annihilate any genre they touch with relative ease.

Along with remixes they’ve completed for acts like DJ Blaqstarr and Muscles, and even a more recent one for Chicago’s own Flosstradmus that you can peep at HotBiscuits, JOTS have released two EP’s titled Y’all Know The Name and Acidbag. Between the two releases there are remix features by Brodinski, Flosstradamus and Nacho Lovers, among others. Two of their remixes made it to my Best Of 2008 post.

Calling In Grum

April 3, 2009

To make everybody’s Friday just a a little bit better, Calling In Sick sent me their latest remix of Grum‘s “Runaway” to throw up here for you guys. Having been featured here several times since I originally recieved their “Cali Games” original, I’m always looking forward to these 2 good kids, and the “good music that they make good.” Might as well include their banging Bag Raiders remix that they put together a while back. Solid.

Grum – Runaway (Calling In Sick Remix)

Bag Raiders – Fun Punch (Calling In Sick Remix)

Presets Giveaway

April 1, 2009

The Presets are playing at The Metro in one week exactly and [redthreat] is set to give away another pair of tickets for the Chicago date to someone that is as excited as I am for their arrival. The last time I saw these guys at The Abbey Pub they killed it.

Their followup full length album, Apocalypso, won three ARIA Awards, and two of their remixed singles landed in my year-end best of 2008 post- both in the top ten nonetheless. The US tour will be ending in California where they’ll be playing at Coachella shortly before they head back to Australia. Only two weeks awayyyyy…

Rusko @ Smartbar [4.02]

April 1, 2009

UK dubstep heavyweight, Rusko, will be in Chicago on Thursday, April 2nd for the follow-up knockout punch long-awaited here in Chicago since his Dub Police counterpart, Caspa, strolled through and blew minds in January. It was sickening.

I’m not sure if you caught Rusko’s essential mix a few months back, but it was easily one of the best of 2008 and a fitting closer to the whole year. Thursday night will only be one of his stops as well, included below are the rest of his North American tour dates. Check and see if he’s strolling through your town.

Moderat! :0

April 1, 2009

Bpitchcontrol has created a monster. On April 20th, the collaboration between Modeselektor and Apparat, a project rightfully named Moderat, will be unleashed to the world. Yesterday, Pitchfork tossed up the single  “A New Error”, one of the singles from their upcoming release and I am very down. That, and very excited- and not just for the full-length. Word is that Booka Shade and Shackleton are set to remix “Rusty Nails”, the first single to be released.

Oh, and within two weeks after the album drops, Moderat will begin their journey across Europe and North America on what I can only expect to be one of the most mind-meltingly awesome shows that I’ll have the chance of seeing this year, if not ever. Thankfully the Chicago date was recently added, though it is still TBA.
