coachella 2009!
The Coachella ’09 was announced this morning! I know where I’ll be come April 17th.  Buy Tickets.

Lindstrom in the US

January 29, 2009

Hey guys, it’s Beep again. I’ve been added to the roster here at [redthreat], so you’ll see me around these parts more often. On a side note: Beatport 4.0 premiered last Wednesday, and I have to say I’m very impressed with the UX. The RSS feeds for genres and artist new releases (finally) are handy on my netvibes/google reader. So go check it and buy buy buy. www.beatport.com

Lindstrøm plays Thursday night at the newly re-opened-for-the-28th-time-until-they-shut-it-down-again Studio B, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Which is good for me because I live in New York. He’ll also be hitting Chicago on Friday, January 30th at Smartbar and Paradise in San Francisco on Saturday, Jan 31st! My choice for Essential Mix of 2007, Lindstrom along with Prins Thomas provide unbelievable sets of elegant, yet sassy “space-disco”. Lindstøm is probably the best producer at the moment when it comes to space-disco. While his tracks can reach well into 15-20 min, he isn’t wasting time. Rather, he’s adding to the suspense and overall mood of the song.

I’ve never really enjoyed the “space” term because I think of the region beyond the Earth’s atmosphere, not the delay/reverb driven songs that create a ‘space’ in the music. When watching the BBC documentary “Pump up the Volume”, I was surprised to find out it was Europe/UK rave culture, not American marketing, to differentiate the sub-genres of house and techno genres in the early 90′s. Organization and categorizing is great, but when all is said and done, it’s just great disco.

Waiting

Artwork by Robert Jaso

This past weekend I watched Darjeeling Limited again. Twice. I’m not sure if you share the same enthusiasm for Wes Anderson flicks, but here are some random clips that I have found across youtube that I thought I would share with you.

Check out this ridiculously sick SPA track remixed by Les Petits Pilous off of the Pets Dance EP that SPA is soon to release on DimMak. Look out for a Bloody Beetroots version as well. LPP truly rep Boys Noize Records well.. Bravo. Big ups to Brookah J and HotBiscuits for this one, I can’t stop playing it since you guys threw it up here..

SPA – Pets Dance (Les Petits Pilous Remix)

Let’s hear some more Neon Coyote. This time it’s a remix by hi, tiger, Epic Banger and My Other Computer is a Sunset affiliates that has been haunting my iPod the past few days. Clean work.

Neon Coyote – Forever Young (hi, tiger Remix)

New tunes from the Stereoheroes today! How these guys are unsigned remains a mystery to me, but they are doing a lot of shows coming up here in France, and will even dip into the states for a minute in SanFran in March for a festival.  The first is a Djedjotronic remix of “Dirty & Hard” (that’s what she said) done for Boys Noize Records that will be released on the self titled EP, Feb 2nd. The second track is a remix of Zingone & Nina‘s “Kick It” and made my morning routine much more enjoyable. Big butt girl!! Big ole big butt girl!! Big but she wear it so wellllll!!

Djedjotronic feat. Spoek – Dirty & Hard (StereoHeroes Remix) [zshare, for now..]

Zingone & Nina – Kick It (Stereoheroes Remix) [zshare, for now..]

Been tripping over this nasty little Jokers Of The Scene remix of The Subs track “My Punk” off of their debut Subculture. Top knotch as always. There’s rumors that The Subs might be at Coachella this year, among other bands. But we can’t confirm anything yet because.. Well, I don’t know why yet. But hopefully we’ll figure it out soon.. In other news, Ryan Seacrest is a fucking toolbag.

The Subs – My Punk (Jokers Of The Scene Remix)

Pegase, the latest sign to the Valerie label, asking me to check out a few of his tracks. Wow. In 2009, I see Valerie taking a huge step forward and becoming one of the forefront labels in this little blog-electro-hipster-nuwave-house world that we all like to retreat to. Rightfully so. What a treat, not only do I get to see College and Anoraak on Tuesday, but I get to hear gems like these:

Empire Of The Sun – Walking On A Dream (Pegase Remix)

Pegase – Tears In The Rain

Pegase – Dream Awake

Second Nature EP

January 29, 2009

Chicago’s Potty Mouth bombshells, Santiago & Bushido have a new EP that is dropping on February 2nd titled Second Nature that I have been playing to death since it droppped into my inbox. I always dig their tunes really hard. Along with three original mixes, there’s a remix of “Can’t Be Wrong” done by Johnny Fiasco. If you’re in the city, check out Santiago headlining Smartbar with DJ Bam Bam and Jphlip on Saturday, Jan 31st. For now, check these clips out:

Santiago & Bushido – Bounce (Original Mix)

Play with Fire

Saint Pauli did a number on the new release by Fare Soldi. There’s also a Keenhouse version along with the original single that you can get your hands on. Like what you hear? For a Fare Soldi mix, head on over to Post Tyson.

Fare Soldi – Survivor (Saint Pauli Remix)

The Count of Monte Cristal‘s remix of N.A.S.A.‘s “Money” is money. One of Herve’s alter-egos has done it again. It must be hard having so much talent that you have to partition your credit to different names.. Doller doller bill y’all. Oh, and N.A.S.A. will be at the Abbey Pub on March 7th. Somethin’ you might want to check out!

N.A.S.A. – Money (The Count Of Monte Cristal Remix)

And more fire from Herve, this time.. Action Maaaaaaaan! Whenever I say that name I want to announce it like powdered toast man in the old ren & stimpy cartoons. This track is massive.

Action Man – Alarm Bells

Yuksek also dropped his album. Something that everyone on the blogosphere has been waiting to see for some time now. Digitally released now, physically released on Feb 2nd. Check out this White Lies remix that has been gaining traction..

White Lies – Farewell To The Fairground (Yuksek Remix)

And let’s not forget some of The Shoes in there either! What a surprise to see those two merging on a track. Very exciting.

The Shoes – Keep That Control ft. Scream Club (Yuksek Remix)

If this next track doesn’t get you excited for some of the remixes coming from The Bloody Beetroots then I don’t know what is wrong with you.

Is anyone else dying to see the Coachella lineup? argh! I think it should be today. I sure hope it is.

Where has this remix been? I was looking up Brodinski remixes the other day and somehow this HeartsRevolution‘s classic slipped under the radar of just about everyone it seems. Journey over to his myspace page if you wanna hear his latest remix: Radioclit‘s “Secousse”.

Heart Revolutions – CYOA (Brodinski Remix)

Hasn’t it seemed like forever since Digitalism‘s last release? At least we’re hearing some more stuff lately, this time by Japanese DJ/producer, Tokima Tokio. I like it!

Digitalism – Taken Away (Tokima Tokio Remix)

Here are two Neon Coyote tracks that you might not have heard either. One is a remix of Sneaky Sound System‘s track “When We Were Young” and the other is of Cut Copy‘s “Far Away”. They have a few other tracks I plan on tossing up in the next few posts as well.

Sneaky Sound System – When We Were Young (Neon Coyote Remix)

Cut Copy – Far Away (Neon Coyote Remix)

Gotta thank Lemur for this one. He gave it #1 last year for singles.. Nice pick. Still not sure if he’s coming or going, but I’m sure enjoying the track! Pacific! tracks are always a treat.

Pacific! – Hot Lips

And to top off this one, I gotta throw down this Fred Falke remix of Alesha Dixon. Summarizes my day today, lol. Man, it seems like everything that the guy touches just gushes with disco charm. You all probably saw how much I liked that “Born Again Runner” remix, landing at a sturdy #2 spot on my year end list…

Valerie hits North America

January 24, 2009

Yea Man! and the Black Holes are bringing Valerie‘s Anoraak & College out this week to Sonotheque on Tuesday January 27th. It’ll be the first show of their US mini-tour that will swing through LA at the Echo Plex on Thurs, Jan. 29th and San Francisco at Mezzanine on Fri, January 30th.

A refreshing antidote to the 2007 banger era, Valerie has helped pave the way to the future through the lens of the 80′s: heavy synths, soothing melodies and retro themes (think John Hughes) that landed the Valerie crew at the top of my list last year as artists to keep your eye on. Along with the Valerie DJs, there will also be sets by Beats of Hot Biscuits, the Black Holes and guest MC, Vyle. A show capturing this kind of obscure rarity isn’t something to be missed, and is something I’ve been eagerly looking forward to since it’s announcement.

Anoraak – Endless Summer

Anoraak – Nightdrive With You (Pomomofo Remix)

College feat. Anoraak – Fantasy Park (Moulinex Remix)

College – Teenage Color (Russ Chimes Remix)

Chromeo – Fancy Footwork (Russ Chimes Remix)

Black Holes – War Drums

Never Ending Freezing

Bill Eff‘s track “Crack Cocaine” has all the chainsaw-to-head I’m needing right now. Take a listen and tell me it doesn’t get you movin’. Keep an eye out for a remix of Pottymouth‘s Kyle Watson‘s track “Jack My Wobble”, coming out soon.

Bill Eff – Hate You (Prepare To Meet Thy Broom Remix)

Oh alright, more UK fidget goodness. Mightyfools come back with another sick remix to trip over, this time for Boemklatsch. I can feel braincells blowing apart in my head when I play this. Maybe I should stop maxing out my speakers. Check out Fancy Sounds for Boemklatsch returning the favor.

Boemklatsch – Bonafied (Mightyfools Remix)

Mustard Pimp would up in my inbox with this heavyhanded banger, “Rer D”, remixed by the Belgian duo Mashed Paper Klub and Floating. Oughtta get that pulse going a bit, eh?

Mustard Pimp – Rer D (Mashed Paper Klub Ft. Floating Erreur D Remix)

Crookers are back with a remix of Miike Snow‘s, and it’s right on time. There’s news going around that the Crookers will be doing another show here in Chicago, and they won’t be alone: Crookers & Deadmau5 together at Congress Theatre.. I just saw the ‘mau5 in Denver for his bday party. Imagine a controlled rave and gogo-dancers wearing mau5 heads..

Miike Snow – Animal (Crookers Remix)

This song might be my favorite track ever. None of them need any introduction: Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Popof. Simply amazing.

Revisiting

Some chick advertising JLo gear

An older track, but when John Dahlback and Sebastian Ingrosso get together on a track you can expect something awesome. Well, here it is, one of my favorite tracks by either of them, “Lick My Deck”.

Sebastian Ingrosso & John Dahlback – Lick My Deck

Yikes. This one is off of an older Cajuan‘s Raven EP and is a little rework of the title track that gets me every time. Dark and emotional, it’s been a favorite of mine for a while now.

Cajuan – Raven (Cajuan’s Moog Rave Mix)

First I have to drop a glimpse into the world of Patrick Wolf. Here’s the megamix to the upcoming release called Battle. I’ve been flamed on a few times on this blog for liking P-Wolf, cause he’s just not hardcore enough in some people’s views. But fuck them. P-Wolf is the shit.

Patrick Wolf – Battle (Upcoming Album Megamix)

I haven’t heard anything from Sta in a while- which makes me feel sad inside. Getting an email with an Sta track is one of the greater pleasures in life. I was rifling through my playlists the other day and visited upon this killer Yelle remix that he did. Great track.

Yelle – A Cause des Garcons (Sta Remix)

And let’s top it off with a Riton remix of Annie‘s “Happy Without You”. It’s off a single release bearing the same name, and along with this tight little Riton remix you can also find an older, lesser known SebastiAn remix. Not a bad release!

Annie – Happy Without You (Riton Vocal Mix)

Caspa @ Smartbar [01.22]

January 16, 2009

Smartbar decided to throw us a curveball early into the year. In a little bit under a week, Caspa will be crossing the Atlantic and showing us what UK dubstep is all about. Along with Rusko, Caspa’s been at the forefront of his scene, genre and label, Dub Police, for a handful of years now, and with successful releases as well as a FabricLive mix it’s safe to say he’ll remain on top for a while to come. The way I think about it, If electronic music were a school, the dubstep crowd would be the ones taking your milk money and kicking your ass after school by the bike racks. I already know that it’s going to be a nasty show; and it’ll be one night I will have to take off work the next day for..

**UPDATE: [redthreat] is doing a ticket giveaway! One pair up for grabs, just send us an email and you’ll be entered! Winner will be decided by Wednesday.

Caspa – Born To Do It

Caspa – Cockney Violin

Art Of Noise – Moments In Love (Caspa Remix)

Lennie De Ice – We Are IE (Caspa & Rusko Remix)

Starting the leg of his tour off in Chicago, Caspa will also be gracing several other cities afterwards, including Abstract Earth in Portland [01.23], SMOG in Los Angeles [01.24] and Smash Quarterly in Las Vegas [01.25] all before February hits and then he’s back to the UK for a few weeks. Canada, there’s some shows for you at the end of next month..
