CHANGE. Art by ChangeTheThought.
Well well well. Last week was pretty fun, eh? DJ Mehdi, Local Hero and Beats all wrapped up into one night at Debonair. Some Flossy-D and Yello Fever going on last Wednesday. Some Cut Copy and Presets, too. All parties pretty much at capacity, Chicago, you definitely impressed me this week. I don’t know what got into y’all, but I’m sure a great deal of you were hurting the past few mornings. Who saw Kid Sister get on the mic the other night at the Abbey Pub? Who saw VHS or Beta wandering around? Who saw someone smoking crack in the bathroom? Beats did, That’s who. You know it’s not a party until someone is smoking rock in public places.
Well enough of that. So you thought the Bloody Beetroots [buy] version was pretty sick, huh? Yes sir, it definitely is. The beetroots slaughter everything they even look at. By now we’re all well aware of the masked beat bandits known as the Bloody Beetroots, and all the chaos and callamity that ensues when they land on your club. But before you cherry pick that file and overlook the rest, compare and contrast that one with the Calling In Sick version. It’s so sick I’m already throwing up, and a cowbell ain’t gonna cut it. As stated before, by them, C.I.S. are “2 good kids from Sydney Australia having a good time attempting to make good sound, and make good people dance… good.”On top of the amazing Shit Disco [buy] remix, I’ll toss the original head turner for me- “Cali Games” – my GOD that song is as tight as a virgin, 72 of them to be exact. ;p

It’s only a matter of time before I get sucked back into Junkie XL [buy]. New or old. The guy knows how to dominate every aspect of music production and crowd killing. Every time I see him live I’m dead on arrival. Well, these are two track that I thought I would share with you. First is an Unkle [buy] remix that he did of “Burn My Shadow” and the second is a Kraak And Smaak [buy] remix that I have yet to see anyone post anywhere. I’m not sure how this slipped people’s radar, but here’s a wakeup call. Some of you probably saw him at Nocturnal Fest in LA… and I hate you for it. (I’ll be at HARDFest though, no doubt. More on that to come.)

Designer Drugs put together a remix for Mariah Carey’s “I’ll Be Loving You” remix contest, and though it didn’t win- it did get runner-up recognition. That’s ok- I wouldn’t expect most Mariah Carey fans to get down on Designer Drugs any ways. Not like we do. I guess the Philly duo relocated to New York at some point between then and there, and they might be visiting a city near you pretty soon. Here’s there line up, along with the remix that should have won..

What the hell have Grafton Primary been doing lately? Well I went ahead and looked into it for ya. The electro synth-pop outfit have been busy in the studio until recently, putting together their first release, Eon [buy], after the massive feedback to the single “I Can Cook” and all of the amazing remixes by the likes of Hey Now, Act Yo Age and Miami Horror. Some nice stuff here. To top off these samples, check out the Kap10Kurt remix. I always love his work. He’ll be in western Europe the next few months if you’re in the area, grab yourself a copy of the DangerSeekers [buy] release with remixes by Tepr, Rolf Honey and Shinichi Osawa. It’s gonna be hot.

If there’s one thing that I have learned today, it’s that I have successfully ‘unlearned’ just about all of the french that I took in highschool. I could probably still order an open faced sandwich with an egg on it, but as far as understanding a full email en francais.. nope, not anymore. Good thing you don’t need a pocket dictionary to tell what good music is. We Are Terrorists [buy] gave me a heads up today on their latest EP, Don’t Panic, that puts these guys solidly on the map. I’d still have to say that the “Ironical Sexism” remix they did of the Revolte original still blows me away. A perfect party track that I almost never hear at any party ever. Solid shame. Hopefully with releases like this that will change. Grab a copy of the album if you like what you hear.
