So it’s a pretty slow here in Chicago for the moment. Nice, though, because I finally have a chance to catch up on sleep. Considering the hours that I’ve been waking up for my new job especially. I updated the side-bar a little while ago, and was shocked to see some of the acts that are coming up here within the next few weeks. Though it is beginning to be the end of summer, there are definitely some events well worth looking forward to. Modeselektor is comin’ out!? Then Deadmau5 two days later?! Oh, and Boy 8-Bit with Diplo? Danger coming too? Word. We have some exciting shit left this summer. So stop wearing your damn sweaters because it’s not cold out yet, scarves too-you damn trendballs- and lets act like we still have something to live for.

Modeselektor – Sucker Pin

Danger – 00h00 (Feat. Vyle)

Check out the Grum remix of “Breakchops” snagged from Ohh! Crapp… Along with a few other artists, I’m tryin’ to get him to make me a mixtape really bad for thehypefm- an online radio gig that I have partnered up with. There’s some serious stuff coming through there, you should check it out. I’ll be doing a series of posts for the mixes that come up. Something to be excited about! And send Grum a letter and tell him that making me a mix is a good idea. Lol.

Moulinex – Breakchops (GRUM Remix)

Moulinex and Xinobi now have their own label, DiscoTexas, worth keeping bookmarked here in your favorites. Let’s see what hails from their direction. Moulinex remixed the Cazals‘ “Somebody Loves Me”- and now, because of this track and Lifelike’s version- I might have to say that this is my favorite remixed track of the year so far. There doesn’t have to be 800 versions of a song in order for me to say that. And in saying all that, I almost forgot the Beetroots‘ version. Foolish! I know.. I love those crazy masked Italian dudes.

Cazals – Somebody, Somewhere (Moulinex Remix)

Cazals – Somebody, Somewhere (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Let’s start off with some Hostage. Last month the Scottish DJ/Producer threw together some tracks for a summer mixtape that we can all jam to. There are some serious gems on here; making Hostage himself request that you NOT rip some of the to-be-released tracks for reposting. Don’t be a silly bastard and go and rip a 128k track from a mixtape on ur blog.. While I’m at it, I should mention the latest of Hostage tracks to hit the blogs. Another recent single, called “Rooted” is well worth a listen. This mix single-handedly almost broke my rewind and fast foward buttons in my car.

Hostage – Rooted

It occured to me today to check and see if there was any new Plimsouls out. And not that band from LA- the guy from the UK.) He sent me a few songs a while back and I hadn’t heard anything for a while so I ran a search. Of course, Electrorash has a Bloc Party track that slipped my radar for the day. Hard to miss that one, really. Great work. As far as Plimsouls’ older stuff goes, I really like his remixes of the Get Cape Wear Cape Fly track “Find the Time” and his “Rebecca (Re-Edit)”. He has his own direction, music that I could almost see accompanying a those wind-up song boxes from a century ago. Try out the Teenagers in Tokyo track for another more recent work of his.

Teenagers In Tokyo – End It Tonight (Plimsouls Remix)

Bloc Party – Signs (Plimsouls Remix)

Alright, a little patience is paying off, eh? Para One has a sick little remix that I have yet to hear. One of my favorites off of the Institubes label, I had the chance to see two labelmates that usually don’t come around these parts the other week. Bobmo and Jean Nipon came through Debonair and played to a small, but dedicated crowd, and caused me what is yet to be officially diagnosed as irrepairable ear damage. Talk about an interesting set, those two were all over the place. I think Bobmo got in trouble with one of the bartenders, too. It was a mess. Or at least I was. Oh! And Surkin is coming around these parts too. I think I forgot to mention that earlier. His tour dates can be found on his myspace page. And that’s that for my Institubes update. Those guys rule. Merci to FYOF for White Knight deux retouched by the ever-masterful Laidback Luke.

Animal Machine – Persona (Para One Remix)

Surkin – White Knight Two (Laidback Luke Remix)

Surkin – Chrome Knight (Feat. Chromeo)

Alright, and here’s another mixtape to quell your anger about the the irregularity of my posts lately. I’ve lost the pain in my wrist, so that means I need to get back to blogging. ;P The only other track that I can think of that I posted of Udachi’s is the “Paradis” remix that he did for Lismore. This time around you can get a more full taste of what he has to offer ya. Check out the AC Slater remix too. Nice, right? I’m just waiting for the “Jack Got Jacked” remix to be dropped sometime soon. Then I’ll be all over it. You can peep it on his myspace page for a lil preview- as far as I can tell it ain’t on the blogs for release and ur just gonna have to wait a bit. But the mixtape is fire- and it is called “Goodbye Clothes” and it was made for Under 140 Radio (?). I’m already naked, so here it goes. Oh, and here’s “Rooted.” Look for the Beastie Boys sample up in there (”Root Down”).. And can someone send me a copy of that “Personal Judas” remix that he did? That track is growing on me really quickly.

I’ve been sleeping on these Nelsen Grover tracks in my mailbox for wayyy too long. You might remember him from that killer Kaiser Chiefs remix of “Love’s Not A Competition…” that I featured here a few months ago. Since then, the Dutch producer has put together a few originals, and has found time to do his own versions of Estelle and Kylie Minogue pieces. His work generally consists of really clean, balanced, big-floor feelers with a polished electro finish. Here’s a few tracks to chew on.

Kaiser Chiefs – Love Is Not A Competition.. (Nelsen Grover Remix)

Nelsen Grover – Dust (Jupiters Heroes Remax)

Nelsen Grover – Fratres (Arvo PNrt Cover)

Nelsen Grover vs Kylie Minogue – Running Slowly

Estelle – American Boy (Nelsen Grover Remix)

Metal On Metal make my day every time I come across a work of theirs. Those guys effing rule. Proving that Transylvania really is an actual place beyond Dracula movies and Halloween references, every song that I hear of theirs makes me wonder why they aren’t on some crazy international tour, burning nightclubs down across the globe. Some pretty epic shit. “No Front Teeth”- a rare look at their original production work so far, has eaten my ipod alive. For another excellent remix beyond their previous works, check out the Blood Red Shoes (where the hell have they been lately?) remix that was released a few months back. For now- you can patiently wait with me for their remix of Polarkreis‘ track called “Allein Allein” and their orignal work that has yet to be released called “Damn!” that, as Metal proclaim themselves, “will bang.” I’m positive it will!

Blood Red Shoes – I Wish I Was Someone Better (Metal On Metal Remix)

Metal On Metal – No Front Teeth

Ugh, and another one I have to throw in here. This one is a remix of Muse by Ocelot. Another winner from the smallish tiger-cat. I wish I’d see more of their work more often, I was happy as hell with the results that iheartcomix got with their remix contest of Lo Sforzo. I’m even posting one of my favorites right below. What happened to the remix competition, guys? Is it all over now that Radiohead did one? Wtf? This one’s for Ellena- I’m glad she dragged me to that Muse show that one time way back then… That was fun- aside from the fact that Muse got booked to open for Avenge Sevenfold. How the fuck does that happen? Also- did you know that iheartcomix has their own youtube channel?

Muse – Knights Of Cydonia (Ocelot Remix)

Just about everything that I hear from Loud Pipes strikes a good note for me. A pretty big Mystery Jets fan as it is, it’s cool to see their work remixed in a manner that doesn’t murder it, but rolls along smoothly with it’s delicacy. For another sample to help kick it up a knotch, here’s “Shift” and “Untitled 2″- both orignal works that demand a listen. And if you didn’t hear ‘em yet, it’s about time to check out the Foals and Ocelot remixes that are monsters.

Mystery Jets – Flakes (Loud Pipes Remix)

Loud Pipes-Untitled #2

Loud Pipes – Shift

Ocelot – Lo Sforzo (Loud Pipes Remix)

Foals – Electric Bloom (Loud Pipes Remix)
