Take a look through Leif’s alchemy for a minute. A Palmsout affiliate, Leif calls himself tropical punk a couple times on his myspace- but what really comes through is a raw, more minimal juke element, vocals performed by Leif himself, over a steady crunk vibe. How it comes across in a club, I wouldn’t know. Never seen him. But I am thoroughly enjoying a lot of his tracks right now, in particular, “Black Magic” and the Ian Johnson remix of “Timbs” that Leif originally did with LA based Harrison Schaaf. The Bangers & Cash womp remix is chock full of a dub oriented chip-on-shoulder vibe. Also, check out his MGMT remix over at The World Forgot while yer at it.

On a related note, Purple Crush, a NY based duo, just released an EP on Crush Records with a track that features Leif called “Get Digital”. Female vocals to accompany Leif’s, repping all the blog lingo that we’ve all come to be familiar with, it’s a pretty funny listen. ”If you’ve got the cheddar, get protools, it’s better.” They’re speakin’ our langugage and are touring in western Europe for a bit in the upcoming future.

Back to the other side of the country, let’s take a look at my good friends The Villains‘ new track. A remix of a New Young Pony Club staple, it’s an older track taken in a new direction by the LA duo. I like it a lot. With carefully crafted tracks like these, it’s easy to see why they turn so many heads with their work when they debuted with their Bloc Party and MJ remixes last year.

Where have the Klaxons been? Haven’t seen them around in a while. Wonderin’ if everything’s all good or if they’re in some sort of trouble or something. Anyone heard from them lately? Are they off exploring some mystical world somewhere? Collecting golden skans off of some royalties somewhere? What’s the deal? Check out this nasty little SebastiAn remix that Electrorash posted today and Check the Skream remix of “It’s Not Over” if you haven’t heard it yet- a little dated, but pretty awesome.

And for more Skream, which I found today before posting this, head over to MissingToof for the Switch remix of “Midnight Request Line” which bangs *oooooohhhhhh*so hard. So tight. There are some other goodies by Skream ovah there too, in particular, a remix that he did for The Bug is pretty sick.

Has Justice’s “Dance” been blogged to death? Short answer: Yes. But out of all of the artists that I can think of, Alan Braxe & Fred Falke made a version that I still can’t shake. It’s a more relaxed sparkly version, typical from the duo, in substitute for one of the forefront bangers of 2k7. For another taste, “Intro” does the trick.

Flufftronix, one of my favorite DJs in the midwest, and a Chicago regular, is moving out east to Philly. I’m sure he will get a warm reception. I sure as hell have a great time whenever he spins in these parts. Here’s a Treasure Fingers remix that he did of “Cross the Dancefloor” that he put out a few days ago. And alongside that release, I’ll throw down the Lifelike & Curses! remixes, too. It’s funny how these edits are popping out right now, even though it’s been months since the original dropped. No complaints over here, guyz. Keep ‘em comin’.

And for a little bonus, here’s the Estelle remix that Treasure Fingers did a bit ago. I love her voice and good production. Sorry, haterzzzz.

that alan braxe/fred falke remix is up there as one of my favorite justice remixes… so departed from the original, doesn’t always have to be some club thumping distorter.

and is there anyone in the world that’s not on the villains bandwagon yet? we can make some more room right? doing america proud one ace remix at a time.
