New Sta is always something to celebrate. One of the more innovative electro artists of our time came through with an Usher & Young Jeezy remix that I really like. Suitable for any size club you can think of- one of the characteristics of Sta’s style that I can think of immediately. The work that originally won my heart was the “Cherry-Cola Funk” remix that I first heard on Neon Coyote’s mixtape a little while back. I love that song. And on top of the Usher track, here’s another remix he did of Joe Budden that is another fun dancefloor favorite.

The Ting Tings have become a really big deal. It’s always cool when these smaller indie bands get larger and larger, and the remixes keep on coming one after another. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery- and what is a remix other than a gesture of adoration or intrigue? One great thing about the group is their modesty. For the track “Great DJ”, along with the Calvin Harris remix, they originally released it for free on the UK iTunes- only to recieve a lot of backlash from people in other countries trying to get the download. So they made it available for free on myspace to appease the masses. Not a bad gesture. The Kasper Bjorke remix is also definitely something to take a listen to as well. For you all in Chicago, you can expect to see them at Lollapalooza in three weeks from now. Get your tickets if you haven’t yet..

Wow there have been a lot of Late of the Pier remixes this year. Switch, Partyshank, Joakim, Beyond the Wizards Sleeve, Haunts, Grum, Primary1, CS90s, Lillica Libertine, and so on. My favorite? “The Bears Are Coming”- hands down. The new(er) Haunts remix utilizes a slap bass that you hear immediately in the beginning, only later on to fade back in with a really clean electric guitar solo. Chorus in full swing. The Switch version of “Space and the Woods” is also a great listen, an unexpected sound coming from his direction. Partyshank’s.. sick. BTWS’s… chill. It’s cool what kind of work can be made with those vocals.

Poney Poney has had some great stuff floating around, too. They’re that trio out of Paris that bangs out some killer new wavey-rockish stuff. I posted that Don Rimini remix a bit ago, remember? Riight. On their Cross The Fader EP they had some shining remixes by the likes of Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya, Headman and even with an exclusive “Junior” remix that you can cop. Did I mention that it was produced by Xavier from that little group called Justice? Yeah. Might want to pay some attention to these guys. Or see them at the Pantiera festival in Cannes on August 11th if money isn’t an issue and you have lots of time on your hands. I’d be there in a khaki suit. Man, and that Headman remix is so fucking good that I can taste the sweat inside my ears when I listen to it. Talk about a massive song.

I couldn’t help but laugh hearing on NPR that this top-of-the-charts Katy Perry track is either influencing and/or reflecting the sex lives of teenagers in the crzy crzy world we live in. lol. In 2008 does it really surprise us when girls kiss make out with eachother? In front of cameras in clubs I go to and on photoblogs that I check? Inspiring me to put up the photos I did today? Maybe. Cherry chapstick? Girls need to step it up a bit if they wanna get my gears going. For realz. Giving me a segue to get back to some Mr Gaspar for a minute here- aside from a kickass Estelle & Kayne “American Boy” remix that he rifled off, here is his own vision of “I kissed a girl” that is fully appropriate for late night makeout sessions. Certainly my favorite of the remixes that have been produced so far. Thx Hotbeezy for the heads up.

Oh, and have you heard of Nic Sarno yet? He had a recent NLLR mixtape project- RIP to the NLLR remix project. That totally sucks that it’s all over, what a good thing they had going there for a while. Sucks. Well, Nic Sarno’s project was pretty killer fidgetty little listen that I enjoyed a lot. Enough to go over to my one of my favorite blogs- BRRRLN- and yank a couple of songs off ‘em so that I can post them up for you guys to listen to in case you missed them. They’re previews, so don’t get too excited, but they offer a good idea of what you can expect if you want to investigate a little further. Plus, there’s a sick HiJack remix in there that is freakin’ amazing. Go for it! You won’t be disappointed! Oh, and he’s touring in Mexico right now for those south of the border (or to my homies in AZ who check up on redthreat every now and then- i know you need a vacation, right?)

Alright, I can’t resist. More HiJack is necessary. I can’t just go out like that, can I? I know you want to hear it, so I’m gonna post it. Another sick Potty Mouth signed artist, from the UK and also found on Jack Union and On The Brink, his sound features more of that wonderful fidget that doesn’t quite make total sense until you’re drunk as shit and dancing in the middle of a hella crowded room. Feel me? Take a listen to these tracks and try to keep your head from bouncing. And do I sound like a lameass when I say that I’m not quite sure how to dance to this? Break heads go off at smartbar when I see these shows. I need lessons. Or more whiskey. On a side note- check his myspace for videos and release details- it’s nice to see a DJ that doesn’t just put up a bunch of shitty glittery graphics, making themselves a total mystery to everyone except their girlfriend and highschool buddies. lol.
