First thing’s first: There’s some new Autokratz released right now. One of Kitsune’s more recent additions, these guys have been putting out some insanely good stuff. The Headman remix that I got around to posting is still a firm favorite in my ipod, frequently looped to death wherever the jam might take me. They have the rough-around-the-edges electro flare to their sound that draws me right in, while still managing to make their songs more than just headbangers. It’s the vocals. Along with one of the tracks off of their new single, I’m going to also post up a nice 80kidz remix to top it off.x
AutoKratz – Stay The Same (80kidz Remix)
Shadow Dancer might be the most suiting name for the group that I can think of. Compared to the other artists on Boys Noize Records, little is known of the duo outside of their native area, certainly not in the areas of North America that I find myself in. I rarely even hear about them on music blogs- which is a shame not only because I consider my fellow music bloggers to be the *enlightened* listeners and partiers, but also because the material coming from Shadow Dancer’s way is really impressive. Check out the new “Cowbois” EP with remixes by Strip Steve, Dilemn & Das Glow. Not so bad, eh?

I normally don’t venture too far into the dubstep realm of electronica- not to say that there isn’t anything there. I’d strongly state that it’s easily one of the more locked in futures for the dance genre but generally just is not my thing. It’s drum & bass roots were more native to me back in more confused days of highschool, a fitting compliment to teen mellodrama. When life was more of a spectator sport, and I wasn’t able to drink legally. I’m not sure if those are really the reasons why I listened, but it’s a comfortable way for me to rehash.
Dub Police, one of the more noteworthy labels on the radar for upcoming talent, reps a wide array of artists that collectively make the major waves in dubstep that we see these days. Of their roster, you might recognize some of the larger names including Caspa, Rusko, L-Wiz, N-Type, The Others, and Subscape, among others. Here’s a link to the online store for their offered releases, and here are a few tracks released by Dub Police that I’ve really enjoyed since discovering. The L-Wiz track is from the Fabric Live mix done by Caspa & Rusko. The Others‘ track is one I’ve been digging for a little while now- such an interesting and mellow piece.
L-Wiz – Girl From Codeine City
And another Murs (for president!) & Busy P remix to take a look at. Here I’ll post the DJ Mehdi version alongside the original. We’ve already all heard the Crookers one- which is probably my favorite of the bunch, but when you combine and Ed Banger and a Living Legend in the same track, I’ll listen to as many versions as there are. Underground LA hip hop meets French electro, who would’ve thought? I certainly wouldn’t have five years ago when I was copping every album by Murs, Sunspot Jonz, Eligh, Grouch and the whole lot of the Legends, but then again, I never would have guessed the direction that dance music went from there anyways..

There’s a Count & Sinden “Beeper” remix that you probably haven’t heard yet. It’s done by a fellow who calls himself Redsoul, from the UK. His style is very jazzy, almost something you’d find on a more mellow Farina album than anything coming out nowadays. Even more surprising when you consider the “Beeper” EP that he is featured on. You can’t buy it online if you’re in the states, yet. I haven’t found a copy of it anywhere when I searched, but you can hear it on his myspace page. Very New Order-ish, right? You hear “Blue Monday” in there? I did. A few songs that I did find, however, were a few other remixes of his that I enjoy listening to. One is by Jazztronik and the other one is a more tucked away remix of Kelis “Bossy”.

I think that everyone that has read this blog in the last 2 months is aware of my infatuation with Anoraak. This guy just won’t let up. Looking backwards while trailblazing into the future, we have us summertime new wave throwbacks with the sound that only Valerie can provide. For this installment of Anoraak’s I’m going to post his remix of The Romantics’ “Talking In Your Sleep”. It’s funny that I post on this track today, because it was only yesterday that I saw the strangest guy biking through Uptown with a massive stereo strapped to the back of his seat blasting the original. For another treat, we have a Xinobi remix- who hasn’t been featured on [redthreat] since October with his BMX single- but he has been busy with the new “Day Off” EP off of their new label- Discotexas. Well worth the listen over at Discodust- and worth the buy over at beatport.

More Miami Horror is always a good thing, and a perfect compliment following up a couple songs by Anoraak. Pnau’s “Embrace” has had it’s fair share of remixes, most of which posted by yours truly in the last few months due to my love for the original- Ladyhawke’s vocals do wonders for me, not to mention the overall theme and execution of the track is so on-point I can’t shake it even after a thousand listens. Add Miami Horror and Fred Falke and you’ve got yourself a winner. If you like the combo, you might also want to check out Fred Falke’s remix of “Back Of The Van” by Ladyhawke. I see a pattern of awesomeness here. Also, while announcing the release of The Presets‘ latest single, “This Boy’s In Love”- another Miami Horror remix has floated to the surface of the blogosphere of “Talk Like That”. Keep ‘em comin’!

And to close this one out, here are few songs that I found over at The Lemur Blog, by Coin Operated Boy. The killer for me is the “Where’s Your Rocker At” rehash of the Basement Jaxx original. I’m really digging it. A dj/producer coming from Sheffield, here’s a taste of what he has to offer so far. I think you’ll like it.

Comment by steez July 11, 2008 @ 8:40 amjeez man. having a bad day or something?
Comment by nicko July 11, 2008 @ 9:17 amI hate to say it, but I’m going to have to agree with Steez on this one… I’ve never been a fan of tracks that play a joke on an original’s title, but this certainly does it in for me. Where’s Your Rocker At just made me want to bust out the old Basement Jaxx album.
You know what’d be fun to see though? More Gary Numan samples. *Revels in his bizarre glory*

i wouldn’t mind a little credit to the original artist- sad to say, but i’ll be willing to bet that there are a lot of kids out there who have no idea who basement jaxx are…
Comment by nicko July 11, 2008 @ 12:52 pm“Where’s your Rocker At” is a simple Mashup of Basement Jaxx – Where’s your head at and Alter Ego – Rocker.
Comment by Fabian July 13, 2008 @ 9:51 amSo when you are talking about the original artist, it would be nice to give the credit to Alter Ego…( Listen to the normal track Rocker and you willl know why )
So good Mash up but nothing special from coin operated boy.
hadn’t heard the ‘rocker’ original. good mashup though.

Comment by nicko July 14, 2008 @ 8:22 amNot only is “Where’s Your Rocker At?” a mashup of Alter Ego and Basement Jaxx, Mr. Miyagi did the same mashup in their “Super Mega Laser Mix” from November of 2007…this is stolen property…or a coincidence…or someone is lying
