One of my favorite producers happens to be one of my good friends. In fact, I got righteously sunburned yesterday at a pool party listening to her spin and couldn’t have had a better time. Aside from this post, my day has been completely and totally worthless. And now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure that I took that photo posted above, too.. That’s definitely Vanessa on the right.
You might recognize Dani Deahl from her work for Urb Magazine, KissAtlanta, and her own blog, D-Squared. Another Chicago icon/friend of mine, Beats, over at HotBiscuits, did a little post on her recently, dropping her latest mixtape entitled “Brodown”- which is a killer listen, featuring tracks by the likes of Kill The Noise, Siriusmo, Japanese Popstars and Buy Now. Also working on her own label as of now, and even touring across the continent in the near future, we’ll certainly be seeing more of Dani in the near future.

Where have the Autokratz been? That Cazals remix was fire a few months ago, right? Made it on my year end best-of post at the very last minute. Well, they’ve been doing shows with Digitalism, remixing works by Fischersponer, Underworld, Make Model and Headman as well as dropping 3 singles. The Headman remix for Gomma Records is something worth taking a close look at, featuring the same choppy windups that made me fall in love with the group to begin with. “Last Show” revels in the relics of an 80’s oriented vibe, and “False Flag Attack” is quick to rain on it’s parade only seconds after. Where’s the full-length already?

What sucks about this summer is that Lismore decided to not come to Chicago on their tour across the country. Super. Weak. Who dropped the ball on picking that one up? WTF. Penelope and Stephen are a duo that definitely knows how to rock. They’ve hit the blogs hard, and there is much to be said for their live performance, but I obviously wouldn’t know anything about that yet. After doing a bunch of shows with AC Slater, wrapping up what’s left of their tour in the East, and heading back to BK to do a show with Ninjasonik and Cobra Krames, all I got are these tracks to tide me over until I visit at some point. I gotta get my ass to New York this summer even if it kills me, or my wallet. Hey, New Yorkers- what’s a good weekend?
Lismore – Paradis (Udachi Remix)
Rails To Russia – Turning Into You (Lismore Remix)

French electro banger and graphic designer, Danger, had instant success following 09/14 2007, his first EP release, with only three tracks and a remix by DatA. His enigma is that of a dual personality, one masked figure and one not, the classic superhero dilemma brought onscreen and onstage once again with overwhelming response. The artwork is truly something interesting, as well as the mask that he chooses to sport while killing clubs. Signed to Ekler’O'Shock records, we have us two new remixes that have been setting fire to web pages across the globe. One of a Boys Noize track and one of We Are Scientists. Quite a range and well worth the download. Aaand, to top it off, I’ll toss in the “American Boy” remix that is oh-so spectacular…

We Are Scientists – Chick Lit (Danger TV Remix Edit)
Boys Noize – Ne.Oh!.Pen (Danger Remix)

And to close this post out, here is a killer little podcast by Pottymouth Records‘ own HeavyFeet, killing the hour long segment in a fidgety fashion that only PMR does so well. This shit stomps, son. There are a few tracks that stand out so much to me that I was scrambling to find the tracklist, but to no avail. “I Like! Flying on a plane! And playing in the rain! And choo choo trains!” Wait ’til you hear it, around the 23 minute marker. The highlight is easily the Geoff K remix that they did of “Jack It Up”- Killlller track, 28 minutes into the mixtape.
It’s a shame that they won’t be in Chicago for the PottyMouth Records anniversary party, but with artists like the Crookers, Santiago and Bushido and James Amato- the man behind the label- I’m sure that it’ll be a party damn well worth remembering! Stay tuned for a ticket giveway! YAY!

Actually, while all these mixes are uploading, I might as well shed some light on a track that I have been pondering over a lot lately. Ever since the Fatboy Slim show at Coachella, I’ve been looking for his version of the Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip “Thou Shalt Always Kill” but found that the original is quite a great piece alone. It offers itself as a manifesto for the music scene, and a rude awakening to those of us who haphazardly worship certain scenes and bands. We’re all guilty of it. “The Beatles, just a band. Led Zepplin, just a band. The Beach Boys, just a band. The Sex Pistols, just a band. The Clash, just a band….” And so on. I think you get the picture.
