Jung Bauer Kalender 2008

The Crookers are coming! The Crookers are coming! TWO month(s) from today, they are scheduled for June 20th. So, grab your gasmasks and stock up on dry foods and bottled water! Confirmed for their date by James Amato of PottyMouth Records and SmartBar notoriety, we’re in for one helluva show. I’d recommend buying a ticket ahead of time because this act is gonna be highly anticipated not only by yours truly, but probably every other electrohead in the city. Here’s a nice little Whip remix to chew on while you’re waiting for the insanity.

The Whip – Trash (Crookers Remix)

Finally a new Twelves track that I can throw out there. Man, I was waiting for a looong time for more from the Brazillian duo- only to find this Theatre of Disco remix that was posted only a little while back in a few places. If you haven’t heard of them since their MIA, Kylie & Thieves Like Us remixes, you have some serious homework to do. Here’s the assignment. When are they gonna head north of the equator for a few shows around my hood? I’m sure that there are plenty of clubs in this city that woud love to host ‘em. Wtf.

Theatre Of Disco – YOA (The Twelves Remix)

Local Hero straight beat me to the punch. I’ve been on his HeartsRevolution remix for a few days, ready to toss it up here when he went and did it himself on my comments section a few posts pack. I guess I was asking for it- quite literally. But I’m gonna have to go and follow through on my original intent. Quite a sick track, the amount of variation I have seen in the array of remixes coming from HeartsRevolution’s direction is spectacular. Very exciting. So far, I think Local Hero’s is the winner, though. Be sure to cop the first single, “Majik”, off of angels new album as well as upcoming remixes for Dizzee Rascal and HeartsRevolution’s next single “Switchblade” (April 21st).

HeartsRevolution – CYOA (A2 and Local Hero Remix)

One of the more exciting groups to have been added to the Coachella lineup this year is Portishead. I’m sure you’re already familiar with their masterpieces, being that redthreat is home to a pretty select variety of music already, but you may not know that Portishead is set to release a new album, ten years from the last studio release, entitled Third. UK newspapers have been on a journalistic parade over what they have heard so far. Expect a battered and bitter record. Though Beth Gibson is quoted saying that she hates touring, I am certainly not going to miss their performance (right before Prince on the main stage.. eff yeah.) While searching, I found this excellent Exillon remix that twists an electro thread through an already tortured and battered track. The Oakland native got it done right. Big ups to Culture Bully for the sneak peak.

Portishead – We Carry On [Later With Jools Holland 04-15-2008]

Portishead – Silence (Exillon Remix)

Gotta give it to A-Trak. He is sure able to take an already banging track and spin it on it’s head. There’s a party in my brain every time I hear one of his tunes, they truly are meant for live performances. Some songs are what I would call “headphone music”- his transcend so effortlessly, leaving me one question: why is he wasting any of his time with Clownye West? What a waste.. On another note, any chance to listen to anything new regarding Boys Noize is one worth taking. He deserves the highest amount of respect when it comes to being the sickest of sick DJs- Also performing at Coachella (the most anticipated set on my behalf, by far..) I’ll be the one being sedated in the center of the crowd halfway through by a team of security dudes.

Boys Noize – Oh! (A-Trak Remix)

Revisiting one of my favorite DJs, Cajuan, I decided to do a little feature on his music. The Pink Grease remix has been around for a hot minute now, but after a few months of not hearing it (for some reason, I never hear Cajuan’s tracks in the clubs around Chicago =( …) I decided that it might be appropriate to toss it up there and see if I could change that. Cajuan’s Raven EP is one of the more amazing releases that has shaped my view of electronic music. Dark, gritty, electro, successfully implementing attitude on top of a more dark and atmospheric descent, it stands out to this day as a work of genius. More recently, I found the Alex Gopher remix over on StreetKiss- another excellent, French music blog that consistently demands attention. I think they are actually number one on hypemachine popular right now, so I’m sure they’re doing just fine without my mention, but they deserve their credit.. Top top that off, and close this one out, here’s a mixtape of Digitalism and Cajuan playing Nocturnal in February. Sickness.
