Some of you are probably still relishing that Cat Powers show that came through Chicago the past week. For me, I’m still remembering the end of Juno, where this song is played to my ear’s delight, and as a perfect wrap up for a great movie. The critics weren’t wrong here. And with the spirit of the holiday at hand, I’ll start the post out with that single and follow it up with one of my favorite Mamas & Papas tracks, featuring Mama Cass Elliot. Gotta love the vaudeville piano influence. Then some Smoosh!

Brooklyn’s MGMT signed to Colombia Records after a successful EP, Time To Pretend (2005), and dropped Oracular Spectacular last year. These two tracks have been on repeat here for the last two days, especially “Kids”- I can not stop playing it for the life of me, which is off of Time To Pretend. It’s haunting and uplifting in a usually unusual way. Great lyricist. Finishing up here in the US for time being, you can see them in western Europe through March.

The Dusty Diamonds emerged on Myspace a few weeks ago, and showcased their Chromeo remix of “Fancy Footwork”. That song shapeshifts a lot throughout the 5 minutes it plays, I am loving the early 90’s “Nothing But A G Thang” vibe they got going on there at the tail end of the track.

One song that caught my attention last week was the Wax Stag “Short Road” remixes, that will be out soon on People In The Sky. Any chance to peep a new Metal On Metal song is always interesting, you might remember them from the Bloc Party “Flux” explosion. The Transylvanian trio are always an exciting listen. Wax Stag’s own remix of the song is a much more calming and fluid composition.

This one was a recommendation by my buddy, Agnoek, the other day. The Replicants are an Anglo-French group, donning their name from pseudo-science fiction influences, composed of MC Andrew Valentine and Ernest Saint Laurent. Some cool stuff there, but just take a look at what The Black Ghosts do with the original. It only further cements them as some of the most cutting-edge and inspiring artists around. They kill it. If you’re in London tomorrow, get your ass to the Herve show. They’ll be there, you lucky bastards.

I’ve never gotten around to posting any PNAU, and it’s a solid shame. After recently stumbling upon their track, “Embrace”, featuring Ladyhawk, I’m sure you’ll find a happy home in your library for it.
