Presstube produces some of the most incredible artwork that the internet has to offer. Very technical & abstract, much of it is also user-interactive. My favorite work of theirs is Davey Jones Locker which features tracks by Evil Pupil & Sixtoo. Pretty awesome. Presstube was also behind the album artwork for Buck 65’s Square release. Since then I’ve kept an eye on their work, eagerly anticipating each new project. Check out the links, they won’t dissapoint.
Alright. I didn’t do a post on the Mark Farina gig last night at Smart Bar, and I feel kind of guilty about it. The show was great. Mark Farina proved himself to be one of the best house acts in the world; period. Our city showed up amped, the energy was all there. (Who throws Zydeco into a DJ set?) A Chicago native, now repping San Fran’ on his myspace page, Farina has been on the scene since ‘89. Of his releases, my favorites are the Mushroom Jazz compilations- which are collections of chilled out down-tempo and hip hop grooves with heavy jazz accents. These tracks are off of the 4th compilation.
Mark Farina - Chicago Babe
Mark Farina - Shoplif
Speaking of Chicago, you might already know that I am a Kanye hater. I have no problem with people stressing how awesome his sophomore release College Dropout was, I’m well aware. It was my summertime soundtrack, too. But the guy is a total tool. I feel the same way about Fergie, but when you get remixes of Glamorous by the likes of Phinz & Treasure Fingers it all finally makes sense. Here’s a remix done by and Italian fellow named Scuola Furano that makes me rethink previous stances.
Kanye West-The Good Life (S in tha mauS Scuola Furano Remix)
The other day I was driving in my friend’s car when this song popped up. She’s a big LCD fan, which isn’t surprising because she listens to good music, but the song was a remix that I hadn’t heard before. Though I loved the track, nothing can beat the original. Easily my favorite by LCD Soundsystem, the song is a off of the groundbreaking self-titled first release for the group. The same one with “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House”.
LCD Soundsystem - Tribulations
LCD Soundsystem - Tribulations (Tigas Out Of The Trance Closet Mix)

Panda Toes had a cool post today. It’s another Chromeo remix. I’m glad he stressed how overdone the concept is, because he’s totally right. Chromeo are featured in an XFM ad here in the states. I generally like Frankmusik’s work, and this track is an original take on a classic. Glitchy effects, grating synth & even a brass line. Pretty cool.
Chromeo - Needy Girl (Frankmusik Remix)
Frankmusik - Three Little Words
I stumbled across Party Time 2000 earlier this week, specifically the Avril Lavigne remix. He’s another cat from Chicago I’d start paying attention to. I wouldn’t ever have thought I’d be posting any of Lavigne’s music, but with an electro-glam makeover, I think I can bear it with a smile. Always fire, the Thieves Like Us remix is another piece that is impressive. Way more of an electro pulse infused on what was previously a pretty easy going track. The high-hat does wonders.
Thieves Like Us - Drugs In My Body (Party Time 2000 Remix)
Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend (Party Time 2000 Remix)
Now I can finally get around to posting some more Neon Coyote. But this time it’s a Danger remix that will leave me with a segue into a post on Danger that I’ve been meaning to do for a while. He’s already made their rotation through the blogosphere very heavily the last few weeks, and rightfully so. His sound is a refreshing take on a genre that is constantly being bogged down by unoriginality. Danger kicks ass. And that DatA remix is so good it’s painful. Stay tuned for a DatA post later this week when he rolls through Chicago for his first American tour. It should be massive.
