Chicago’s own Walter Meego will be playing an early set at AV-Aerie (2000 w. fulton). The location changed, so if you were already planning on going and haven’t heard, there it is. Bring everybody you know, because the show’s all ages and only costs five bones if you get there early. Should be a kickass gig. Currently, they’re working on a new album and I’m definitely going the be all over it when it drops. Right now you can peep some of their new demos on their Myspace.

Walter Meego - Through A Keyhole (Solid Groove & Sinden Remix)
Walter Meego - Wanna Be A Star (Walter Sees Stars Remix)
Deep Dish will also be around over at SpyBar. And if you’re really considering going to either the Van Dyk or the Guetta show, this is the set that you really should be going to. Sharam, 1/2 of the legendary crew, will be in town. Though I have yet to see him, I saw his other half Dubfire a few months ago and he obliterated a set over in Scottsdale at Axis/Radius. It was incredible. Both of these guys are considered to be the best house DJs that America- as a whole- has to offer. I’m not sure if I would be so quick to disagree. Here are some tracks off of Sharam’s latest Global Underground: Dubai release
Sharam - The Other Side (Deep Dish Other Than This Side Remix)
Sharam - Spirit In My Life
Sharam - Everlasting
DJ Sativa, Hiroki, Trancid & Chris Santiago will be playing at Moonshine as well, for the MAMBY event. This will be another local event that is guaranteed to kick ass. Plus, there’s no cover or any other nonsense to have to deal with. I went there a week ago for the DJ Zebo night and had a great time.
DJ Nu-Mark from Jurassic 5 is also in town over at Darkroom for The Lessons, Thanksgiving Edition. In terms of great hip hop DJs, Numark ranks up there with the best. I’d hold him up to any of ‘em. You know who Jurassic 5 are. The Comeup’s DJs Pickel & Intel will also be spinning. It’ll be 10 bucks before 11pm, 12 after.
Jurassic 5 - Quality Control
Jurassic 5 - Concrete Schoolyard
Jurassic 5 - Work It Out (Feat. Dave Matthews)
Another appearance that shouldn’t be slept on is the Dave Guetta show. This ranks up there with the Paul Van Dyk crowd, I’m sure there will be a lot of people agonizing over which concert to go to. Guetta will be playing over at Crobar, as well, which is a very suitable venue for such an in-demand act all across the globe. Even if you ain’t heard the name, you’ve danced to one of his songs at one point or another.
David Guetta - The World Is Mine (Antoine Clamaran Remix)
David Guetta - Love Don’t Let Me Go

And for my main man, Buck 65. The guy is a genius. A savior of hip hop, turning conventional b-boy antics into timeless masterpieces more reminiscent of Johnny Cash than most old-schoolers. His lyricism & technical skill surpass any other artist I can think of right now, yet many people who claim they *love* hip hop probably wouldn’t even begin to understand it. MSTRKRFT does. The show will be at Reggie’s Live and I’ve been waiting a while for this one. Oh, and that “Thought So” remix was taken from the original Weirdo Magnet (Side A). Gangster!
Buck 65 - Protest
Buck 65 - Pen Thief
Buck 65 - Kennedy Killed The Hat (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Buck 65 - Thought So
Paul Van Dyk will be playing at Congress Theatre. as well, and I know a helluva lot of fools that are going to that show. I’ve already seen the set twice this year, and his sets are what they are. If you want to go to a gigantic trance gig, then this is your bag. Lots of people, dancing, out of their minds, etc.. Here’s a video of the set that I saw. Though I won’t ever bang PVD in my car, the set definitely holds a warm place in my heart.
Justin Timberlake - What Goes Around…Comes Around (Paul Van Dyk Remix)
iiO - Rapture (Paul Van Dyk Remix)
Another really anticipated performance, that I’m sure will not suffer at all for a crowd, is the MIA & The Cool Kids show over at the House of Blues. MIA, straight out of Sri Lanka, and beloved all over the world will be an awesome gig. Couple that with the rising stardom of the ‘Kids and game over. This is the show people will be screaming about on Thursday morning, hungover and danced-out. If I were you I’d get a ticket if they’re still available.
MIA - Bird Flu
MIA - Paper Planes
MIA - Boyz (Leif Remix)
Cool Kids - Gettin It (Feat. Lil Wayne)
And last but not least comes one of my favorite emcee’s Sage Francis, ready to rock over at The Metro. Known widely for his freestyles, slam poetry and verse, the Strange Famous label head has had quite a history in our region. I remember seeing him play a set at the Fireside Bowl back in the day to a crowd of 30 people. Nowadays his scope has certainly widened, even distributed through Epitaph Records. The songs below are off of 3 previous albums. Oh, and watch this video - it’s a breakdancing battle videos done in the parking lot of Epitaph. Hilarious.
Sage Francis - Message Sent
Sage Francis - All Word No Play
Sage Francis - Inhereted Scars
