It’s my birthday! Yay! I’m getting old, and the hangovers are only getting worse. But tomorrow, I’m just going to have to deal with another because tonite Peanut Butter Wolf & Madlib are in town over at The Abbey Pub. Peanut Butter Wolf has an extensive hip hop history, he’s the one time producer for the late Charizma and also the first man to make an all DJ mix. That’s right, without PB there’d be none of it. He’s the forefather of it all. This genre would be unrecognizable without him.

A fever for more Villains. Much more Villains. You might remember me gushing about their Bloc Party & Michael Jackson remixes that I posted a little while back. Well here’s another tight little remix they did of Daft Punk’s classic, “Around the World” along with a mixtape that they recently threw together. I came that close to spiking my coffee mug on the floor when I first listened. Amazing. I’m telling you, Villains are gonna burn LA to the ground in ‘08.

And if you’re on the west coast, peep this flier. And by all means, Go! I had the chance to see the LA Riots & Treasure Fingers gig here in Chicago when they came through and they were awesome. I had somewhere in the ballpark of fifty shots of jager and can’t remember much but I had a great time, that much I know. - Definitely not the show to miss.

There’s a new Mystery Jets album coming out in a little while, and Erol Alkan is behind the production on the whole piece(!!!) I certainly didn’t see it coming, but the Mystery Jets are one of Erol’s favorite bands. So that explains that. It’s not hard to see why when listening to “Flakes”. It is a really nice piece. And even though it’s a considerable shift in gears from the regular postings on [redthreat] - I nonetheless think it breaks the mold. Such a smooth track, I don’t always have to be spazzing to dance music.

Other groups have also taken notice of their sound and done their own reworks, one of the more noticeable ones being (you guessed it..) Justice, which yielded a rather weak(er) effort on their part if you ask me. Mystery Jets also do their own versions of “Hounds of Love” (had to post. that Phones remix is still on heavy rotation here. i can-not get enough.) & Bloc Party’s “The Pioneers”. Check out the tunes and keep a lookout for the next release.

Plimsouls dropped some new tracks on me today. Nice lighthearted electro groove with touches of tech interspersed throughout “As It Happened”. More in your face on “Long Way Down”. Less boisterous and more delicate, there’s a nice balance to these songs that are easy for build-ups or wind-downs. The “Rebecca Re-Edit” had to be thrown in for the occasion, I have been itchin‘ to drop that song for a hot minute now- a really nice static-anthemed bounce to close out with.

Congorock hit me up today. He came up with his first solo track after his last kicker, “Bluto Fucks Popeye”, with The Bloody Beetroots. “Exodus” is too fast to be fidget and to yummy to be techno, have a taste and tell me what you think. I included a copy of his Autumn Mixxx from a little while back, just in case it flew under your radar. The mix is so nasty it’s rotted my car stereo out.

Here’s the big beat electro floorcrusher for the week, a piping hot remix of Kaiser Chiefs by Nelsen Grover. The song is super progressive in a lot of aspects. And though that can really turn me off to a track really quick, overall this builds and breaks in all the right places. This track would bang like a shotgun in the face at the right club at 3 in the morning. Feels like Junkie XL into the third minute into it with a killer chorus hook.
