It’s my birthday! Yay! I’m getting old, and the hangovers are only getting worse. But tomorrow, I’m just going to have to deal with another because tonite Peanut Butter Wolf & Madlib are in town over at The Abbey Pub. Peanut Butter Wolf has an extensive hip hop history, he’s the one time producer for the late Charizma and also the first man to make an all DJ mix. That’s right, without PB there’d be none of it. He’s the forefather of it all. This genre would be unrecognizable without him.
Peanut Butter Wolf - The Chronicle
Peanut Butter Wolf - Things Could Be Better
Beastie Boys - Shadrach (Peanut Butter Wolf Remix)
Madlib is no amateur either. His solo work as well as projects alongside Jay-Dee (Jaylib) and MF Doom, just to name a few remain some of the greatest and most innovative in hip hop this century. Who else would get full access to Blue Note Records legendary jazz & blue vaults to mix together “Shades of Blue”? Can you dig it?
Madlib - Conducted Rhythms
Donald Byrd - Steppin Into Tomorrow (Madlib Mix)
J Dilla - In The Streets
Aesop Rock & Percee P - Coward Of The Year
The show starts at 8, and also features the likes of Percee P, Guilty Simpon, Karriem Riggins & J.Rocc. All worth seeing and writing on, but I gotta get movin’! Peep that last track. Amazing (of course produced by Blockhead- my man main)..
I’ve Got A Fever

A fever for more Villains. Much more Villains. You might remember me gushing about their Bloc Party & Michael Jackson remixes that I posted a little while back. Well here’s another tight little remix they did of Daft Punk’s classic, “Around the World” along with a mixtape that they recently threw together. I came that close to spiking my coffee mug on the floor when I first listened. Amazing. I’m telling you, Villains are gonna burn LA to the ground in ‘08.
And if you’re on the west coast, peep this flier. And by all means, Go! I had the chance to see the LA Riots & Treasure Fingers gig here in Chicago when they came through and they were awesome. I had somewhere in the ballpark of fifty shots of jager and can’t remember much but I had a great time, that much I know. - Definitely not the show to miss.

Plimsouls

Plimsouls dropped some new tracks on me today. Nice lighthearted electro groove with touches of tech interspersed throughout “As It Happened”. More in your face on “Long Way Down”. Less boisterous and more delicate, there’s a nice balance to these songs that are easy for build-ups or wind-downs. The “Rebecca Re-Edit” had to be thrown in for the occasion, I have been itchin‘ to drop that song for a hot minute now- a really nice static-anthemed bounce to close out with.

Congorock Exodus

Congorock hit me up today. He came up with his first solo track after his last kicker, “Bluto Fucks Popeye”, with The Bloody Beetroots. “Exodus” is too fast to be fidget and to yummy to be techno, have a taste and tell me what you think. I included a copy of his Autumn Mixxx from a little while back, just in case it flew under your radar. The mix is so nasty it’s rotted my car stereo out.

TRAMP!

Here is TRAMP! Well that’s not really a photo of them, but I found it on flickr and thought it was pretty funny. Whatever. So they sound pretty tight, huh? A style of dance music heavily reliant on the analog, their songs do wonders for me. I’ll let them speak for themselves…
“TRAMP! is a beast that was unleashed in 2004. It now lurks in a dark basement in Manchester. It comes out from hiding every Wednesday night until 2 in the morning, sometimes later. Two layabouts James & Will play records with the volume up too high, and sometimes TRAMP invites it’s friends to play as well as bands and acts who are entertaining and/or good. We ruin Thursdays.“

New Young Pony Club - Ice Cream (TRAMP! Reclicks)
..Hot Pink Delorean

Cheers to Discodust! They’ve always got the bomb shit over there. This time it is the exclusive releases of Hot Pink Delorean. I wanna make a stupid Back To The Future jokes, but I’m not going to..
Straight out of Boston, I was a little bewildered by their sound at first, specifically on the M.I.A. remix- purposefully disoriented until that sick head banging guitar riff into the first minute. And then you get the breakdown at the 3 min. marker! Wow! I’m also lovin’ the Fantastadon cooperation as well, dance anthem rock-your-face off type ‘ish. I’m gonnna do what I can to get my hands on some of their solo tunes, seems to be way too slept on. For now, here is what we have.
