Vegoose: Day One Schedule

The Vegoose festival in Las Vegas is kicking off this weekend but I’m not going. That is unless someone wants to buy me a ticket. And airfare and a hotel room, preferably the Venetian with a nice view, throw in some gambling money and cash for booze and so on. Yeah- don’t really have the dough right now to fork out for that, and because I don’t see any spontaneous acts of charity coming my way in the next 48 hours, all I can do is theorize what I would do if I was going. I looked up the lineup and boiled it all down for ya. Here it goes.

First off, I wouldn’t go to Lupe Fiasco. Not when Gogol Bordello is on the Jokers Wild Stage at the same time (they start at 12:45), you absolutely can’t miss these guys. I saw a recent performance of theirs on David Letterman show a few months back and it was mindblowing. After further investigation, I dug up a whole mess load of videos on youtube, and accounts online of the kind of parties that this guy brings to cities when he rolls through. A while back they did a show with Madonna as well. Here’s a song and video for backup.

Gogol Bordello – Wanderlust King

Gogol Bordello – Start Wearing Purple

Gogol Bordello – Wanderlust King, Live on David Letterman- Video

After consultation with Ellena, who is a Blonde Redhead fan, she said that the shows are semi uninspired. So that leaves missing Sound Tribe Sector 9 completely out of the question. They’re from 2:45- 4:15 on the Jokers Wild Stage. I have yet to see those guys, but rumors and legends must be true. I was super surprised to see them on the lineup, but after considering the cult following that they have built up from their live performances it makes more sense. So dope. (Should be a night show).

STS9 – Tooth

STS9 – Be Nice

STS9 – 1103 (Live @ Red Rocks, Morrison)

Sound Tribe Sector Nine – Aimlessly, Live @ The Tabernacle- Video

Atmosphere is a gimme. They occupy the 4:15-5:15 block over on Snake Eyes Stage. If you want to hear some of their music, i posted on it just a few days ago. They played in Chicago at the beginning of the week over at The Metro. I was out of town, but have seen them at ton of times already and wouldn’t hesitate to see Slug work the mic again. “..the man on the mic, the man in your mind, the man who made you push rewind.”- Slug. Sick.

Stop by for a quick second over at Cypress Hill on the Double Down Stage. There’s a throwback for ya. “Black Sunday” remains one of the best hip hop albums of all time. DJ Muggs is a gangster. But I can’t stay long, because coming on soon is M.I.A.

Cypress Hill – Insane In The Brain

M.I.A. is one of the most popular musicians in the world right now, beloved all over for her innovative style and content. She’s from Sri Lanka, born into the revolutionary party and catapulted into the international limelight. Talk about gained momentum since her debut album, her work speaks for itself, much less the army of dj’s remixing her work. Dope. Don’t miss.

MIA – Paper Planes

MIA – 20 Dollar

MIA – Bamboo Banger

MIA – Bird Flu (Crash Berlin Remix)

M.I.A. – Jimmy (Music Video)- Video

Try to relax over at the Iggy & The Stooges show for a little bit. Keyword here: try. Then head on over to Thievery Corp. If the only stuff of theirs that you are familiar with is off of the Golden State soundtrack then you are missing out and are in for a surprise. I’ll leave it at that, and offer you this video to gaze at.

Thievery Corporation – Lebanese Blonde

Sarah Mclachlan – Dirty Little Secret (Thievery Corp Remix)

Thievery Corporation – The Outernationalist

And on to Daft Punk. The whole reason why a lot of you are probably reading this. Their show is going to be epic, just like every other one in North America this year. Expect lazers, pyramids, video screens, raving insane people. Expect nothing less than the best time you’ve ever had. There’s a reason why they coined the phrase “Time Of Your Life”. It is nothing short of amazing, a spectacle that will render the whole Vegas strip a minute sequence of uninspiring patterns similar to the Lite-Brite board you might have played with as a six year old.

I will say nothing more, but ask only one thing: for all of you who saw the show, comment and tell me how epic it was, how shortsighted I am for not being there. Go ahead. I saw them at the Sports Arena in LA this summer and would do the same thing in your stead.

Daft Punk – Too Long & Steam Machine (Live)

Daft Punk – Around The World & Television Rules The Nation

Daft Punk – Aerodynamic (Johnatron Remix)

Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out (Daft Punk Remix)

BT vs Daft Punk – Darker Skies

Daft Punk – Prime Time Of Your Life (Roccanova Remix)

Stay Tuned for Day 2!! And have a good time and be safe. Remember, drink a lot of water and don’t stop dancing. Have a fucking good time.
