Two midwest hip hop icons that make me proud to be from our region are blowing up The Metro on Monday, October 22nd. With Slug on the mic and Ant on the beats you can not fail with Atmosphere. Shoot, I used to rock over to their shows almost a decade ago before they developed national buzz. This was when Sage Francis played shows at The Fireside Bowl to crowds of fifty to sixty people. When hip hop was more fun, more introspective, and not so politically conscious. Those were good days.
Atmosphere has released some of the best hip hop albums in existance (click here to hear my previous rant on how dope they are), and still remain the raining champs of Rhymesayers Entertainment, the record label known for bringing about talents such as Blueprint, Eyedea & Ablilities, Brother Ali & Musab, and even more recently, Mac Lethal.
Mac Lethal touring to promote his new album “11:11″. Back in ‘02 he beat out all the competition in the midwest regional hip hop who’s who Scribble Jam 2002. His freestyling is among the best in the industry, and his writing keeps pace- it’s surprising it’s taken him so long to get more recognition. Just check out his older albums, in particular “Men Are From Mars, Porn Stars Are From Earth”. The show will be great. The last time I saw Mac live he played a set for an Arizona State crowd a few years back and he didn’t even have a DJ. Mac played all of his instrumentals through a disc-man plugged into the system, and still killed it. Who else can do that?
Atmosphere – Scapegoat
Atmosphere – Travel (Remix)
Atmosphere – Summer Song
Atmosphere – Mattress
Mac Lethal – Pound That Beer
Mac Lethal – Rotten Apple Pie
