It took me a little while, but I finally got around to listening to the full length release of The Midnight Juggernauts entitled “Dystopia” this morning. After healthy appreciation in their mother country of Australia following their premiere releases of “Secrets of the Universe EP” & “Road to Recovery EP”, they were adopted by Paris until the full length album dropped. The French loved these guys & it’s easy to see why. Synth heavy, dreamy, and often dance oriented, there’s a lot there to their sound.
In many ways they fall in line with The Klaxons‘ release “Myths of the Near Future”- in being a rock group that grasps the obscure and runs with it. It’s a beautiful and strange thing, but a refreshing listen after years of downtroddenly anxious indie nonsense. Let’s hear something new! Some of their songs, if not a majority of them, have the complex uniformity and cooperation that Pink Floyd was able to execute and orchestrate. You rarely hear a band whose members are all going in different directions nail an album to the wall like this. “Dystopia” was well worth my wait.
